we don't know
by it's very nature it is impossible to quantify but we all know of instances - including undercover investigations on TV - where people brag about getting job seekers allowance and housing benefit when they are making sure they don't look for work. they simply copy applications and never actually send them off.
So you've watched a couple of Channel 5 programmes and now think there's an epidemic?
What makes you think that this is widespread enough to be a serious issue?

A small number of people will always be ahead of whatever protections that we try to put into place.
That doesn't mean that we stop trying to catch them or refine the system, but you'll always be able to find examples of it.

What a bunch of ****ing morons lol. You are so blinded by your dislike of anything posted by certain members that you want to create bullshit arguments and run around back slapping and rimming each other. Even when you agree with the main points, you still try to twist the original point so as to have something to say 'no' to and whine about. <doh>

Napoleon pops in to play the pedantic prat (badly) every once in a while. Stan the snide sits at home fuming at the screen as he tries to resist posting too often in the hope we all believe he now has a job. Tobes just thinks he can win a point because his paragraphs contain more expletives than the opposing side and the rest are clinging onto the shirt tails of whoever in the remain camp manages to use words of more than 2 syllables.

Oh well never mind. Carry on carrying on. :emoticon-0136-giggl
There it is. Not that you're bothered by Stan <laugh>

Threatened anyone with sexual assault today or are you now on the register?

Desperate in the extreme.

We're leaving. <ok>
It does pose an interesting question.

Before the 2020 general election, natural change in demographics wipes out the leave majority.

Sounds like Brexit needs to be done and dusted ASAP.

Some flip flop so much, they'll end up with shoes on their feet.

If I could be arsed to find it, there's a post on one of these threads where the same people defending those on benefits, were critical of those pointing out the gulf between benefit payments and tax avoidance. Then there's the recent posts.

One minute they're defending the poor on benefits, later they'll be back to saying the immigrants are doing the jobs our work shy spongers won't do or that care homes would collapse without them. :emoticon-0116-evilg
The usual bollocks from you.

Not every benefits claimant is a sponger, but the sanctions rules often catch those who are more than willing to work.

There's over 3 million EU immigrants working in the UK and less than 600k long term unemployed you dolt. Welcome to the point

At lot of that stuff used to be done by school kids round here. They've always looked for low price labour.

That's what I am saying, too

We need to tell these foreign types that we won the war as at the moment it's coming across as a bit desperate.

Chancellor urges Brexit interim deal

Chancellor Philip Hammond has backed a transitional deal for Brexit saying it would be "helpful" to allow longer than two years for the UK's EU exit.

Mr Hammond told the Treasury select committee that there was an "emerging view" that having longer would tend towards a "smoother transition" .

There would be "less risks of disruption" including "crucially risks to financial stability", he added.

However, both business and government would have to make changes, he said.

His comments are being seen as the strongest signal yet from the government that the Brexit process could take a lot longer than the two years needed for the official Article 50 exit process to be completed.

I saw that earlier. it's no great surprise. Despite all the waffle and bluster from the increasing hapless May & co, it's patently obvious that a) it will all take several years to unravel, and b). They still haven't got a ****ing clue what they're doing, or where they're going.

Hammond is effectively saying that this is going to be a ****storm and we need to drag it out as long as possible in the hope that it can be watered down as much as possible. If he and the government genuinely thought it was a good thing they'd be pushing it forward as quickly as possible.
