It's based on the fact there are inherent problems with the EU that the Eurozone countries can't easily escape and the solutions are unpalatable to their populations.

Whatever the definition of "free movement" is for the EU politniks, assume now that the
UK govt will not agree, and operate on the worst case scenario (EU/UK trade conflicts) .
I expect to see info coming out from both sides for this particular "war game" scenario.

No, but how could the EU allow a member state to leave and retain the benefit of it's primary function i.e. the single market, without having to allow free movement which is a pre-requisite for membership? It'd cause complete uproar.

People have been hoping that the 3 Tory stooges could somehow overcome this obstacle, but it's apparent from the tone on both sides, that it's simply not going to happen.

It's a 'conflict' that we'd lose, it's been done to death. Our exposure is 44% of our exports, the highest individual EU member states exposure is about 7%.

We'll operate on WTO tariffs until a deal is concluded - the timescale will far exceed the 2 year deadline imo.

In the interim, tariffs combined with a weak pound will drive inflation due to our trade deficit and our appeal to global business seeking a European base will be zero.

But it's all sound, as we'll have our country back.

that destroyed Europe twice in the 20th century in the space of 3 decades ??

The primary function of the EEC was the single market. We've always been a reluctant partner in the EU, hence our extensive use of our prized veto.

I'm not quite sure of the relevance of the question given the context though?

An element of the Middle East conflicts was to protect the Euro after some Arab states looked to trade in their own monetary system.
