Does anyone remember Icelands wanting to go plastic free from their brand by 2023?
Well here's something that you probably don't know. Now I'm a butcher in a frozen meat factory and we do a few jobs for Iceland in their plastic packaging at the moment. They still want us to supply for them but we have to put it in our own brand for them to sell. They basically have us by the balls because we will lose out in hundreds of thousands of pounds if we don't do it. Big companies using small companies to take the fall and make themselves look good. Here's the link https://about.iceland.co.uk/plastic-free-by-2023/

OMG, I have got to share this on here. Are there no depths of deception that Toyota [Lexus] will go to?:

I mean. This is total and utter BS. It's not even clever or witty. And Norway has already banned Toyota from advertising this nonsense, but they are continuing it in the UK because they think people are stupid. I think we need to ban it too.

It's just a slightly more complicated petrol car. Nothing innovative and/or environment saving.

Having said that (and I am no big car manufacturer fan) - Toyota invests a lot of money into research in hydrogen cars.

Hydrogen cars have many advantages over electric cars that require charging, such as refueling time. I think it has a lot of potential.

There's a few things wrong with using hydrogen as a fuel. One, you have to make it, and it isn't that easy in quantity. You can steam recover it from Methane [our old friend Natural Gas] or through Electrolysis. It has been calculated that an amount of hydrogen, that provides the same miles as petrol/diesel, will cost the same as those. For me. that's not an improvement. However, it uses all the same/similar infrastructure that fossil fuels use, so the FF companies would provide it. That's also a step sideways for me. I want to be free from them, if possible. In making hydrogen you have to use quite a bit of electricity. So why not put that straight into a battery?

Here is the excellent Real Engineering Youtube channel which provides a very balanced comparison. This is from July 2018, so the odd fact is out of date. However, calculations of efficiencies are still valid:

Methane reformation is one of the biggest sources of hydrogen which is arguably not very sustainable, however there are more options for production than many biofuels which cause other issues e.g. ethanol cars in Brazil.

The biggest advantage is that refill times are much quicker than fuel cells. But any car that doesn't have an engine is going to massively reduce cost and efficiency.

You are probably right.........Although this new battery type they are talking about 1500 mile duration etc maybe a real solution. Hydrogen can be a bit explosive and Im not sure they have sorted natural protection out properly yet. The manufacturing side environmentally possibly similar?

Hydrogen is much safer than petrol. If you have an accident the hydrogen will just shoot up into the atmosphere! You probably are thinking Hindenberg style but I can assure you that the hydrogen cars my friends test are much less likely to catch fire than a petrol one.

Petition signing time folks. Ask Boris Johnson to stop subsidising the fossil fuel industry. Remember, globally they get $6.7 trillion dollars in annual handouts. Just share it afterwards:

It's so frustrating when wind and tidal are so much more cost effective in the UK. But hey, it's the UK Government that removed tax breaks on renewables and subsidised fossil fuels even though it is not in the nations interest. But it does suit all their Lords that used to work for BP :(.

1 child policy all the way!

And cull everyone over say, 75? That would be a decent starting point.

The rest of this nonsense like stopping eating meat, or getting rid of your car, is completely irrelevant until we begin to address the big **** off elephant in the room.

“And cull everyone over say, 75?”

That should be done before every General Election to counter the biased reporting in their newspaper of choice. :bandit:

Latest wheeze from Boris and his pals is to reduce the airline flight tax to save Flybe. Very green.
