Apparently he was after 120k a week, 4 year contract and 3mil for his agents. Even Chelsea and all their money couldn't agree to their demands.

I can't believe that demba let's these buffoons represent him.

I think Newcastle fans might be keeping Ba. If the reports are accurate and he is demanding over £100k per week. Yes he is a good player, potentially could be great, but he isn't the best in the Prem and shouldn't be earning that kind of sum. Don't blame him for trying though.

I think the lad needs to take a look at his team of reps and wonder are they looking after him or not.

His agents being the main part of the deal of course. They always tend to look after #1 first.

well im happy as it seems that he is more likely to be at the club for the game v everton!

but what frame of mind will he be in
will Pardew want to play a player that wants to be away
Does Ba want to be away or is this just the Agents trying to maneuvere a better contract

who knows

Did start to think that!! All of his moves appear to be driven by nominal fees or free, which will give his representatives an awful lot of bargaining power.

He's hardly looking like a sulking player that's not trying, so possibly he is just going on agents advice and not trying to engineer the move himself.

I'm sure some of you more savvy posters will be a bit more clued up on things than I am, but I would imagine Ba's contract is further complicated by 'Issues' with his knee, I would imagine that he will need a pretty high insurance on top of his high salary, and other monies that footballers tend to rack up these days.
Would the insurance increase the more of a 'Financial Commodity' he becomes? Not sure how these things work, but I know one of you will. <ok>

Ba will play Chelsea off against Arsenal etc....

There's no way back for him with us though if things fall through.

Even though he scores goals, the fact he is openly negotiating to leave means his head won't be fully on the Toon if his move(s) fall through plus.... would we want the inevitable squad resentment to fester?

The team comes before the individual so it's better for all parties that he get's his move sooner rather than later.

I can't see Ba going in Jan, I don't think Chelsea will pay that money when they have a bigger player in mind for the Summer. I think he may go abroad, Spain, France etc. as I can't see any prem club coughing up £7.5m plus £3m agent fees and £80k a week for the next two years with his "knee problem" getting in the way. That's a £18.5m outlay at least for any club that sign him.

On top of this I don't want a striker coming in unless its a young British one that's playing first team football somewhere. I'd rather spend the money on the defence or a left winger depending how we are going to set up if Ba goes.

Were all moaning about this release clause but people have to remember we signed him for nout. So even if he does go and we get £5m for him that's £5m profit! And people may bring up his wages but for the amount he's scored for us I'd say he's been worth it.

Good luck to the lad if he does move as I won't begrudge him for chasing more money.

I'm past caring, we had all this in the summer and he remained. Its all just "sources understand" etc etc. We'll find out tomorrow when the team is announced. No way Pards will play him if he is definitely leaving. Just all part and parcel of football and the window.

I too am passed caring. If Ba's agents are looking for the figures being bandied about then he's going no-where as there isn't a PL team who'll pay that ( even though they can afford it ). It's just sheer greed by his agents wanting their cut.
Remember, Chelsea only wanted him as a squad player to back up Torres so his game time would be limited.

If I were pards I wouldn't play him again unless he signed a new contract or moved on. The fact that money bags Chelsea have walked away from a potential deal should be a decent enough warning for him.

Unfortunately the way things are with injuries tho we don't have that many options....unless we go with Shola and Cisse, or Xisco and Cisse. Now that would be a kick in the teeth... Playing ****ing Xisco ahead of Ba !

Don't really see a problem. He clearly is playing the best football he can, whether on the basis that he's loyal till he goes or to increas his saleability - - doesn't really matter.

I'd like him to stay of course, but if he leaves he'll have put £5m of profit in our kitty and a lot of goals in the net. Glad to have him here, or to have had him here.

I heard that clubs can't get insurance on him because of the knee thing. If so, he's just not going to get a massive long term contract anywhere. Of course I could be totally wrong about this...

Exactly if he continues to perform to his best who cares. I think that would change once a deal is agreed then Pards would probably not risk his head not being in the game. All the speculation is exactly that, speculation. Been a great signing whatever happens. I just hope he leaves for somewhere a step up from ourselves. Wherever he goes he'll be increasing his money and rightly so. Personally I think its far from a foregone conclusion as far as him leaving, mainly because of the money required and also the fact we're in the last 32 of the Europa.
