No Ali Orr?? One of our more form batters of last season and he's made runs well so far in pre-season? I hope he's injured as, otherwise, he would have been an absolute no-brainer pick for me!
Assuming that Fuller is not yet match-fit (given that he didn't feature in pre-season either) then Currie is the only other one of our seam bowlers who could reasonably bat at 8. Yes, Organ or Neal could but we don't need 2 spinners in the early season games. I appreciate that Weatherley did have a bit of form before injury last year but I still don't trust him to deliver in red ball. The last thing we need is to piss Orr off so he seeks a move elsewhere to get some game time.
I'd go with Currie over Jack I think, just to add balance. I noticed that Gubbins opened a couple of times in pre-season so don't rule that out either, but he is more likely to continue to bat at 3, I agree.
I know it's not a proper main reason for team selection, but playing Currie also gives us another good option for fielding at slip, we need 3 minimum. So this team would now have Currie, Albert and Weatherley I'd suggest, at 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Prest would replace Weatherley in the cordon if he plays. Dawson should really be in there at 2nd, but he doesn't seem to like fielding there anymore.
