Phew

But we're getting relegated next week unless the vote to turn D1 into 12 teams is passed.

The forecast for Saturday in Nottingham is actually improving, it was solid rain all weekend before. Hopefully there will be the chance to get the match completed properly. It will be interesting to see if they put Washington Sundar in the squad, but I expect they won't.

He didn't feature in the group stage, so won't be eligible (as an overseas player) for the final.

Apparently England might yet release Currie to play.

We have 2 things in our favour going into the final round of fixtures:

1. Durham and Yorks play each other. Clearly our favoured scenario is Durham losing. Hopefully the ECB make Brook and Root available - they tend to be more open to make batters available than bowlers.
2. A draw is no good at all for Surrey. If they want to try and force a result the circumstances will have to favour us as a draw will likely be good enough for us.

Good point. There's an outside chance we might have McMullen back after his Scotland duty, which would certainly help balance the team in Dawson's absence:

1) Orr
2) Gubbins (capt)
3) Middleton
4) Albert (wk)
5) McMullen
6) Mayes
7) Fuller
8) Currie
9) Neal
10) Abbott
11) Jack/Wheal/Baker

Would give us 6 bowlers, plus a bit of Gubbins. No room in there for Brown or Organ or Prest, any of whom could come in (or Jack/Wheal/Baker) if Currie isn't released.

Dawson and, presumably, Baker will be available for Surrey so we should at least have our best bowling attack for the first time this season. I think it's an absolute given that we prepare a wicket that will turn as the match goes on. I would be tempted to try something radical and drop Middleton and have Fuller in the team as an opening bat. With Dawson back and Sundar and Barker in the team our mid to lower order batting is strong enough to try it.

I like your thinking but surely it would be more likely to be Organ to open and Fuller down at 8, Barker 9, Abbott 10 and probably Baker at 11?
