You're attempting to compare Redknapp's "triffic player" comments with an ex-Utd player actually admitting to dishonest meetings with your manager.

I'm not comparing Harry Redknapp's "triffic player" comments to anything, I'm saying I've seen and heard on Sky numerous times in January, Harry Redknapp trying to engineer a deal for Odemwingie via the media because on numerous occasions he has been told a resounding "NO" by the club themselves. How Fergie acquired Stam was obviously wrong if he did go about it in that way, but that doesn't mean he goes about every transfer like that. Redknapp does do this, he speaks of every target in the media. AVB doesn't do this, he's a much more respectable man, it makes perfect sense to me that Gareth Bale is flourishing under a proper football coach, Redknapp had not a ****ing clue how to get more out of the most naturally gifted player he's probably ever managed.

My response was initially to a comment that essentially stated that Fergie waits for Spurs to develop the players then he poaches them. My initial thoughts were that A) Michael Carrick is twice the player he was at Spurs and you took him from West Ham in a similar way; you offered him something his previous club couldn't. B) Berbatov was already established before he joined Spurs, you didn't develop his game at all. If I need to add a C) Sheringham was due a trophy for all his hard work and D) We've learned our lesson and we've cut the middle man out with Zaha.

He was photographed at your training ground with Fergie and his agent before he was given permission to talk to you, funnily enough soon after that you ended up caving in to our demands that you were adament would not be met.

Zeki Fryers was free to talk to clubs and even train with them because his contract was up but you decided that he was worth £6mill which we baulked at. I think the point his agent made at the time was that if you rated him at £6mill then you should offer him a £20k a week contract to reflect that but clearly you didn't. If you're accusing us off wrong doing there then you also have to accept all the allegations of tapping up against United, which are vast, and also accept that you kept a very young Mikel in long, intense negotiations when he wanted to leave to think it over and forced him to sign for you. Fergie's far from spotless :)
 
Whilst I understand and agree with some of what TH Says, footballers are people too - and not all money gabbing mercenaries. Yes, it's only natural that a player dreams of winning cups, medals, etc, but there are other considerations too.

Bale is very close to his family, and his Welsh roots. He lives with his childhood sweetheart and their child. He is very close to his parents also. Unless I have read him seriously wrong, their wishes and needs would come very high in the order of his considerations, if thinking of a move.

Bale is still very young. RVP jumped ship at the Goons, pushing thirty and with virtually no hope of winning anything, unless he moved. I think, and I hope that he will give us at least another year to show that we can give him the success his talent surely deserves.

I'm not accusing Spurs of anything, the whole transfer surrounding him, Pogba and Ravel Morrison have proved that United can't simply hold on to players because we are United. Fergie's as ruthless as anybody in the transfer market, but I'm not buying it that we spoke to Berbatov without permission, there was obviously an agreement that we paid £30m if he agreed personal terms. We coughed up £30m for him because he was linked with City and Fergie shat his pants at the thought of their strike force.

You shouldn't brainwash yourselves into thinking you'd be title challengers if you managed to hold on to these players, the sales of these players have enabled you to push on. The sale of Modric has seen Spurs spend wisely for probably the first time in years, you have elevated yourselves into the position to attract players of a better calibre. The fact is, if United never sold Beckham we'd have never needed Ronaldo, we don't blame Real Madrid or any other club for that matter that both of these legends never played together at United.

Agree, some players have more important things on their mind than money and winning trophies, some players are more humble and appreciate the life they have. Some players are settled in their city with their family so don't want to move.

I have to accept that there's a very slim chance that he'll be one of those players, but only he knows what he wants to do and until he publicly dismisses Barcelona, Madrid etc and says he will never leave Spurs, whilst he's in the spotlight and perfoming like he is now, you lot have to accept that there's a massive chance that he's going to want to play for the best teams in the world.

I'm sure that he does, or will do. What I am saying is that he strikes me as the type of guy who will listen very carefully to the wishes of those closest to him, and possibly put their needs before his own.
 
Very few British players have made successful careers at top European clubs. It's not easy for a young person to leave their family, learn a new language, settle into a new culture and cope with the demands of playing for a top club alongside other top players with big egos and personalities. Many shirk from those challenges rather than embrace them. Bale appears quiet and shy. He is only now blossoming into a consistent top class performer. I don't think he's ready to move to a club like Real Madrid. A move to another English club is more feasible if any can afford him. He would fit in at Utd and be looked after by SAF, but I don't expect him to move.

Berbatov had already refused to join City after we accepted the bid. You can think what you like about Berbatov but if you're going ignore what most accept happened then it's a bit rich to claim that our transfer of Fryers was pre planned.

I'm guessing the last paragraph is nothing to do with me but anyway... We did not benefit from losing Modric as Dembele his replacement was never going to be as good and the likes of Lloris, Vertonghen and other signings who have improved our squad were all independent of that sale. Berbatov and then Modric going on strike was an attempt to force us to sell, if they were happy to stay Levy would not have taken the money for them.

People do have a tendency to sell out faster than is good for them. The hurdle many fall at IMO is working their way into the team. Players who are used to having their name in the lineup every day may find their confidence and skills deteriorate when sitting on the bench.

The poster boys for what I'm saying: Modric picking up splinters at Real, then "slowing the game down" as a late sub, while Bale keeps gathering steam in a familiar and comfortable environment. I obviously want Bale to spend his career at Tottenham. But I think he would be wise to stay at Spurs for at least 1-3 years more rather than getting lost on the Barca or Real bench.

No one has said he won't. Most disagree that any of that's a certainty to happen this summer though.

Twat Robbie Savage reckons Gareth has to leave Spurs to become as big as Messi.Mark Bowen say's Bollocks he can do it with Spurs,and he say's he know's Gareth,and he say's he won't leave Spurs in the forseable future
 
There's only realy two people (not teams) in the UK who can afford to sign Bale, that's Abramovic and Sheik Mansour. I don't see Levy selling Bale for much short of £55M to RM or Barca and he would probably want an extra £20M to sell him to a UK rival, whatever the price, the Glaziers are unlikely to be able to afford him.

Bale's supposed to be on £105k per week plus bonus's so if his agent has any bollocks he's not going to consider anything under about £180k a week, there's no point. The risk of changing everything and it all going tits-up for a 20% - 30% wage rise is downright stupidity.

Bale has also been frozen out of the team in the not too distant past (remember his first 24 appearances?), he will not want a repeat of that. I bet he looks at Modric, who has gone from hero to zero in the space of one transfer and must a little bit concerned of what could happen to him if he moved. Would he be allowed the same freedom at Madrid/Barca as he gets playing under AVB? Playing with a team full of ego-mainiacs might not suit his style. Furthermore, I doubt his missus would want him surrounded by glory hunting old slappers 24/7, stuck by himself in a foreign country by himself with sweet FA to do.

He also has time on his side, he doesn't have any need to rush into anything. He could easily review his career in two or three years time. He also appears to be enjoying his football, life is probably good as well after his missus has just given birth to their first child. It may be a co-incidence but he appears to have matured with the birth of his child and his football has improved as a result, the football is not the all and all of everything anymore.
In addition, I think leaving a team 'to win something' is a red herring. Players leave in order 'to compete' not to win things. The Arsenal exodus has happened because players like Fabregas, Nasri and van Persie have left because Arsenal look as if they are happy just ticking over and actually challenging for trophys is a little beyond them for the forseeable future. Spurs are still at the 'trying to compete' stage. Daniel Levy should take note of the situation at the Emirates, sometimes you have to invest to protect your investment. A sort of insurance for the want of a better word.

I just hope for Bale's sake he gets the best advice. I don't see him as a risk taker and I hope he gives his future full consideration. I just hope that he doesn't get bullied by a greedy agent (or a greedy Levy). For him the right move could prove excellent but the wrong move could spell disaster. Sometimes in life it's better the devil you know. There is definitely something to be said for sticking rather twisting if you are holding a good hand.

We seem to attract rival fans that camp on our board and spout rubbish about our managers and players however suggesting Redknapp didn't a clue on how to get the best out of Bale is laughable.

Bale is progressing as a player each yeah and redknapp has overseen that progression from his outstanding performances at left back to then switching Bale to left wing in which he was outstanding.

Towards the end of last season, Redknapp introduced 4231 and asked Bale to roam ,he is the manager that made it clear to see the best of Bale he will move to a central position.

Also its only recently Bale has been putting in MOTM peformances, its taken a while for him to have the confidence to roam and even then he isn't perfect and aside from his beautiful free kicks agaisnt Lyon, he was average.

Redknapp seems to be an easy target for every fan to attack but he was superb for us and was highly important in allowing Bale to become the player he is.
