1492: Conquest of Paradise (in French, 1492 : Christophe Colomb) is an epic 1992 European adventure/drama film directed by Ridley Scott and written by Roselyne Bosch, which tells the fictionalized story of the discovery of the New World by Italian explorer Christopher Columbus (Gérard Depardieu) and the effect this had on the Indigenous peoples of the Americas.

The film was released by Paramount to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Columbus' voyage.[2]
 
Syphilis came from Spain in 1493 Call it the “New World’s Revenge.” The first recorded instance of syphilis in Europe was made in 1494 when it ravaged the French troops that were besieging the city-state of Naples. It is theorized that the unfortunate French soldiers’ malady originated with their Spanish allies also taking part in the siege. It is further surmised that this chain of transmission began in Spain in 1493 with the return of members of Columbus’s first voyage to the Caribbean Islands. It is hypothesized that the returnees had been exposed to the disease through their intimate fraternization with the native population of the New World.

The Education Act 1496 was an act of the Parliament of Scotland (1496 c. 87) that ordered the schooling of those who would administer the legal system at the local level. This made schooling compulsory for the first time in Scotland. The intent was to improve the administration of justice nationwide and to make the legal system more responsive at the local level.

The Act was still in effect in the 19th century.

The Cornish Rebellion of 1497 (Cornish: Rebellyans Kernow) was a popular uprising by the people of Cornwall in the far southwest of Britain. Its primary cause was a response of people to the raising of war taxes by King Henry VII on the impoverished Cornish, to raise money for a campaign against Scotland motivated by brief border skirmishes that were inspired by Perkin Warbeck's pretence to the English throne. Tin miners were angered as the scale of the taxes overturned previous rights granted by Edward I of England to the Cornish Stannary Parliament which exempted Cornwall from all taxes of 10ths or 15ths of income.
The Cornish Rebellion of 1497 is the main inspiration for the name of Cornwall's Rugby League team, The Cornish Rebels.

Evening anti - Flippin' Germans made Ronaldo and his Portugeezers look decidedly average. Most interesting topic were the numerous complaints from viewers to the BBC about Phil Neville's commentating abilities. He was so quietly spoken, it was like he was in a Chemist's shop asking a female assistant for a "packet of three" !! Almost comatose<laugh>

The Triumph 1500 was a small (initially) front-wheel drive automobile produced by Standard-Triumph from 1970 to 1976.

Whilst retaining the front-wheel drive of the Triumph 1300, the body featured a restyled nose, a lengthened tail, twin headlights, horizontally mounted rear light clusters and a larger boot. The interior was also restyled featuring a new design of dashboard and door cards but retaining the wooden door cappings. The engine size was increased to 1493 cc with a single SU carburettor and had a power output of 61 bhp (45 kW; 62 PS). The suspension used coil springs all round and was independent at the front, incorporating a dead-beam rear axle at the back, which represented something of a technological retreat from the all-independent suspension offered by the 1300.[2] In 1972 the power output was increased to 65 bhp (48 kW; 66 PS) with an uprated carburettor and inlet manifold. These later cars also had a silver nose badge. Earlier cars had a black nose badge.

1502- in the year 1502, Charles de Gauloises invented a popular parlour game, which became all the rage for a short period. The game is better known as "noughts and crosses" although the original used dots in place of crosses. It fell out of favour once the educated realised that the game could not actually end in other than a draw.

Quite fun, but ultimately flawed, the game enjoyed has brief periods of popularity from those days, but each generation has ultimately realised the futility of playing, just as the 16th century French did all those years ago.

Although It's quite possible that there a couple of football fans still playing it somewhere I guess.<whistle>

I had a builder like that once, working on an extension, which I'd hoped would have been finished earlier than it was, to hold my expansive collection of popular parlour games <nahnah>

He was credited with discovering the Americas, which came as a surprise to those peoples who had been living on them for centuries.
One good thing though; he did know when to stop and die. Fair play to him, I say.&#128077;
