1740 represents the birth year of a Parisian gentleman, named Donatien-Alphonse-François, famous as the Marquis de Sade. Imprisoned many times by his licentious morals, this would undoubtedly have enjoyed this spicy woody perfume, an invitation to pleasure. Born in London into a wealthy family, on 13 February 1743, Joseph Banks received his earliest education at home under private tuition. At age nine he attended Harrow School and was then enrolled at Eton School which he attended from the age of 13 until 18. In 1760 he entered Christ Church at Oxford University as a gentlemen commoner. His passion for botany and dedication to Linnean precepts had developed to such an extent that, unable to study botany at Oxford, Banks employed a private tutor, Isaac Lyons, from Cambridge. As was usual for members of his social class, Banks did not take out a degree. He came down from Oxford in 1763 an independently wealthy man following the death of his father in 1761. The remains of a 300-year-old warship are to be raised from the sea bed, according to reports. The wreck of HMS Victory, a predecessor of Nelson's famous flagship, was found near the Channel Islands in 2008. The British warship, which went down in a storm in 1744 killing more than 1,000 sailors, could contain gold coins worth an estimated £500m. Watcha anti - sorry to hear about Mrs Anti. Hope the scan produces a good outcome for her. What about some non-alcoholic beer/lager to infuse ? Poor substitute I know, but better than nothing ! Good win for SFC today - still second in the table. We could only manage a draw up north. Still, just outside the playoffs, so not all bad news. Have a good day
The 1745 Jacobite Rebellion Bonnie Prince Charlie Speed bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing Onward the sailors cry Carry the lad that was born to be king Over the sea to Skye Loud the winds howl, loud the waves roar, Thunderclaps rend the air Baffled our foes, stand by the shore Follow they will not dare The Skye Boat Song is familiar as a lullaby to millions around the world, many of whom otherwise have barely heard of the island. It recalls Prince Charles’ flight, disguised as a maid, from Government troops to the Isle of Skye, aided by Flora MacDonald. The Wales and Berwick Act 1746 (20 Geo. II, c. 42) was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain that created a statutory definition of England as including England, Wales and Berwick-upon-Tweed. This definition applied to all acts passed before and after the Act's coming into force, unless a given Act provided an alternative definition. According to Blackstone, the Act "perhaps superfluously" made explicit what was previously implicit. Evening anti. 8,000 dollars eh ?! That would buy a lot of bottles of Wyndham Estate 555 ! Nice day today. Back to work tomorrow unfortunately. Have a good day.
The 1747 Pub is in the original kitchen and ‘Hat Shop’ of William Reynolds. It has stone and brick walls, walk-in fireplace, low ceilings, brick floors, and the original stairwell from the 1737 construction. The 12th April, 1748, was the date of the first recorded use of an anagram in the English language. Of course, the inventor of this amusing pastime has been dead for many, many years now. May he erect a penis.

MHIS201 This unit explores the interactions between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians from the 1750s to the present. It provides students with background in the nineteenth century context before moving through some of the key developments of the twentieth century. Included here is empire, environment and race; land; political resistance; the impact of Christianity and the missions; the role of the law; protection; assimilation; labour and sexual relations; anthropology; ideology; self-determination; rights; and sovereignty. The unit encourages students to consider history the way Aboriginal people have written, danced, performed, painted and understood it. We consider the legacies of colonialism in the present, including questions of restitution, to emphasise the complex connections and disconnections of a shared history. Calendar Reform in England, 1752 It is widely known that in September 1752, Great Britain switched from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. In order to achieve the change, 11 days were 'omitted' from the calendar - i.e. the day after 2 September 1752 was 14 September 1752. This change was as a result of an Act of Parliament - the "Calendar Act" of 1751 An Act for Regulating the Commencement of the Year; and for Correcting the Calendar now in Use. Evening anti. Really warm day today - went for a nice walk lunchtime along Cowes sea front, watching the Cruise Ships leaving Southampton waters. Indian Summer until the end of October would be fantastic. Have a good day.
The British Museum was founded in 1753, at a time when London was changing from being the capital of an emerging economy to the centre of a new empire. The mid-eighteenth century saw a number of significant national and international events. In 1746 the defeat of the Jacobite Rebellion at the battle of Culloden ended Stuart claims to the monarchy. In 1763 the end of the Seven Years' War left Britain in control of Canada, India and much of the Caribbean. Greetings Woopert - cooler sunny morning - I used to love going to Mayflower Park and watch the ships come and go and it was a place Billy Smart and Chipperfields used to set their circuses up - much excitement when younger - getting the ute out today to pick up some furniture for my daughter so will take the high command to get her out of the house and stop her going stir crazy - not handling no driving and no work and not being able to see much except blur - enjoy the weather long may it last ATB
The French and Indian War was the North American conflict that was part of a larger imperial conflict between Great Britain and France known as the Seven Years’ War. The French and Indian War began in 1754 and ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The war provided Great Britain enormous territorial gains in North America, but disputes over subsequent frontier policy and paying the war’s expenses led to colonial discontent, and ultimately to the American revolution. How's it going anti ? How did your furniture buying trip go ? Nice day again today, and another long walk lunchtime. Doctor says I have slightly high blood pressure, and to exercise more, hence the brisk walking. He said that lifting a pint glass doesn't count - what does he know !! Have a good day
The 1755 Lisbon earthquake, also known as the Great Lisbon Earthquake, occurred in the Kingdom of Portugal on Saturday, 1 November 1755, the holiday of All Saints' Day, at around 09:40 local time. In combination with subsequent fires and a tsunami (maremoto in Portuguese), the earthquake almost totally destroyed Lisbon and adjoining areas. Seismologists today estimate the Lisbon earthquake had a magnitude in the range 8.5–9.0 on the moment magnitude scale, with its epicentre in the Atlantic Ocean about 200 km (120 mi) west-southwest of Cape St. Vincent. Estimates place the death toll in Lisbon alone between 10,000 and 100,000 people, making it one of the deadliest earthquakes in history. Hey Woopert - had a few rumblings in my house after a curry night but cant compare with that magnitude - today is a happy/sad day me and a mate are taking a close friend who wont see Christmas due to the dreaded "C" out on a boat its a lovely sunny day with temps in the low twenties so fine for throwing a line in a couple of miles out - only be for a couple of hours as that is all he can manage - maybe that's why I try to be happy all the time enough crap going on around us - furniture now in my garage for probably forever and a day its a four car garage but only room for 2 cos of "stuff" - keep walking and pint lifting and if all else fails there are tablets for everything - if I come home with a plump bird today summats gone wrong - ATB
The Militia Act 1757 had effect only in England and Wales and aimed to create a professional national military reserve. Records were kept, and the men were selected by ballot to serve for longer periods. Uniforms and weapons were provided, and the force was 'embodied' from time to time for training. The threat of Ireland's belligerent all-Protestant militia to copy the American colonists and seek to free their country from British control if Ireland's demands for free trade were not met, and the inability of the British, after years of war overseas, to police Ireland easily, would later lead to the Union of Great Britain and the Kingdom of Ireland into the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. Hi anti. Hope your fishing trip went well. Sorry to hear about your friend - that's really sad news. Another nice day over here. Only one more day before the weekend. All the best.
The Battle of Cartagena took place on 28 February 1758 off the Spanish port of Cartagena during the Seven Years' War. A British fleet under Henry Osborn, which had blockaded a French fleet in Cartagena, attacked and defeated a French force under Michel-Ange Duquesne de Menneville coming to their assistance. The interception of the French fleet ensured that only limited assistance would come to the French fortress of Louisbourg in North America, which was besieged by British forces and fell later that year. Hey Woopert - sunny cool day just back from the quacks after my six monthly blood test all good surprisingly liver/kidney function test "normal" bloody full ahead both I say - morning on the water went well he enjoyed that's the main thing - clocks go forward this weekend summer beckons - any idea why two of the Sunday games kick off at 1405 what a strange time - labour day weekend here finishing on Monday - hope you enjoy yours ATB
