Henry VIII died in 1547 and his son Edward VI succeeded him. .... In 1547 he introduced the Vagrancy Act. This stated that any able-bodied person who was out of work for more than three days should be branded with a V and sold into slavery for two years. Other offences by the same individual would lead to a life of slavery. This act did not show Somerset in a humanitarian light and many local authorities refused to enforce it as they knew such legislation would be highly unpopular in the localities and that they, as the enforcers of local law, would be blamed.

The Book of Common Prayer - 1549

Evening anti. Lovely day today, went on the ferry, and steam railway from Dartmouth to Paignton for the day. Like going back in time. Finished the day off with a nice bottle of Australian Yellow Tail Shiraz. The yankees played well last night against the Belgians. Even Poirot wouldn't have predicted their fightback in extra time !!

The Commodore 1551 (originally introduced as the SFS 481) was a floppy disk drive for the Commodore Plus/4 home computer. It resembled a charcoal-colored Commodore 1541 and plugged into the cartridge port, providing faster access than the C64/1541 combination. Commodore reportedly planned an interface to allow use of the 1551 with the C64, but it was never released.

Hi anti. I believe there is still a train that runs down Hythe Pier to meet the passenger ferry to Southampton - is that the one you mean ? Really hot today, but too good to last - rain forecast for tomorrow !

MIL-STD-1553 is a military standard published by the United States Department of Defense that defines the mechanical, electrical, and functional characteristics of a serial data bus. It was originally designed for use with military avionics, but has also become commonly used in spacecraft on-board data handling (OBDH) subsystems, both military and civil. It features a dual redundant balanced line physical layer, a (differential) network interface, time division multiplexing, half-duplex command/response protocol, and up to 31 remote terminals (devices).

Evening anti - it did rain today as they predicted, but not nearly as bad as they said it would ! How's your cold, sorry man flu ?!

Born of a flood and centuries-old Belgian text, 1554 Black Lager uses a lager yeast strain and dark chocolaty malts to redefine what dark beer can be. In 1997, a Fort Collins flood destroyed the original recipe our researcher, Phil Benstein, found in the library. So Phil and brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, travelled to Belgium to retrieve this unique style lost to the ages. Their first challenge was deciphering antiquated script and outdated units of measurement, but trial and error (and many months of in-house sampling) culminated in 1554, a highly quaffable dark beer with a moderate body and mouthfeel.

Gooday Woopert today dawns sunny and dusty as foretold - Man flu has progressed to the clearing up slowly stage rattly cough etc - I have managed in my time to break both femurs have a kneecap removed endured a fractured skull a broken collarbone and broken wrist due to two drunk drivers but this "flu" was worse than all that - the tea in bed and the bacon sarny from the high command has stopped - hope the weather stays fine for the weekend ATB

Jan 23, 1556: Deadliest earthquake in history rocks China.

On this day in 1556, an earthquake in Shaanxi, China, kills an estimated 830,000 people. Counting casualties is often imprecise after large-scale disasters, especially prior to the 20th century, but this disaster is still considered the deadliest of all time.

Evening anti. The Dutch are struggling to beat Costa Coffee/Rica in extra time, as I watch the TV. Blimey, you have been through it injury wise. Sounds like you have been rebuilt as the Bionic Man !

The Battle of Saint-Quentin of 1557 was fought at Saint-Quentin in Picardy, during the Italian War of 1551–1559. The Spanish, which is to say the international forces of the Habsburg Philip II of Spain, who had regained the support of the English whose Catholic queen he had married, won a significant victory over the French at Saint-Quentin, in northern France.

The Treaty of Edinburgh (also known as the Treaty of Leith) was a treaty drawn up on 5 July 1560 between the Commissioners of Queen Elizabeth of England with the assent of the Scottish Lords of the Congregation, and the French representatives of King Francis II of France (husband of Mary Queen of Scots) to formally conclude the Siege of Leith and replace the Auld Alliance with France with a new Anglo-Scottish accord, while maintaining the peace between England and France agreed by the Treaty of Cateau-Cambresis.

Evening anti (aka Steve Austin) - I can see the Germans winning the World Cup, then who knows...........world domination ?!. I hope the Dutch win it personally. Have a good day.

At sunrise on the 14th April 1561, the citizens of Nuremberg beheld "A very frightful spectacle." The sky appeared to fill with cylindrical objects from which red, black, orange and blue white disks and globes emerged. Crosses and tubes resembling cannon barrels also appeared whereupon the objects promptly "began to fight one another." This event is depicted in a famous 16th century woodcut by Hans Glaser.

Sounds like a couple of steins too many - Greetings Woopert I too would like the Dutch to win but the Germans seem to have the wood on them - fine sunny day need some rain - two funerals this week club members so need to attend - no swimming this week as still trying to shake off the cold ATB

Always the Bridesmaids, eh Dev ?!

March 19, 1563 – Edict of Amboise signed at the Château d'Amboise by Catherine de' Medici, acting as regent for her son Charles IX of France, having been negotiated between the Huguenot Louis, Prince of Condé, and Anne, duc de Montmorency, Constable of France. It accords some toleration to the Huguenots, especially to aristocrats. It officially ends the first phase of the French Wars of Religion and the combined Huguenot and royal armies then march north to besiege the English in Le Havre.

Evening anti. Wet day today, but sun forecast for tomorrow hopefully. Have a good day <ok>

According to tradition, the great English dramatist and poet William Shakespeare is born in Stratford-on-Avon on April 23, 1564. It is impossible to be certain the exact day on which he was born, but church records show that he was baptized on April 26, and three days was a customary amount of time to wait before baptizing a newborn. Shakespeare's date of death is conclusively known, however: it was April 23, 1616. He was 52 years old and had retired to Stratford three years before.

Gooday Woopert another yes another fine and sunny day have emptied the water tank on the garden so bring on some precipitation - broad beans starting to flower orange tree full as is the lemon tree soon to be planting some raspberry bushes - enjoy the sunny forecast ATB

The Great Siege of Malta took place in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire invaded the island of Malta, then held by the Knights Hospitaller. The Knights, together with between 400 Maltese men, women and children and approximately 2,000 footsoldiers won the siege which became one of the most celebrated events in sixteenth-century Europe. Voltaire said, "Nothing is better known than the siege of Malta," and it undoubtedly contributed to the eventual erosion of the European perception of Ottoman invincibility and marked a new phase in Spanish domination of the Mediterranean.

G'day anti - just watched Germany totally dismantle and humiliate Brazil 7-1 in the first semi final. Taxi for Scolari !! Trust your 'Man Cold' has fully cleared up now ?

Between July 19, 1566 and July 7, 1567 – The first bridge crossing the Neretva river at Mostar (in modern-day Bosnia and Herzegovina) is completed by the Ottoman Empire. The white marble bridge becomes known as Stari Most ("Old Bridge").

Hey Woopert - yes up at 6am to watch it total humiliation few years to get over that - we all need to practice "don't cry for me Argentina" then its our preferred final with a cloggy victory hopefully - fine and sunny again- Man cold becoming a memory ATB
