The Great Comet of 1577 (official designation: C/1577 V1) was a comet that passed close to Earth during the year 1577 AD. It was viewed by people all over Europe, including the famous Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe and Turkish astronomer Taqi ad-Din.

    William Harvey (1578 - 1657)
By all accounts, William Harvey led a charmed life. Harvey, oldest of seven children, was born in 1578 in Kent, England, at the halfway point of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was a voracious student, earning his bachelor's degree in 1597 from Cambridge University. He continued his schooling at the University of Padua, the foremost medical school of the time, where he studied under the esteemed scientist and surgeon, Hieronymus Fabricius.

Greetings Woopert - hopefully a Kate Bush lookalike in the Babooshka outfit would suit for a birthday pressy - the back was improving till I went for a remedial massage this a.m. as a result I'm walking like a crab with a tree trunk rammed where the sun don't shine. Darts cancelled just a quiet couple whilst putting football selections on then home - hope the tsunami doesn't eventuate I'm sure theres plenty for sunshine to come ATB

The Act of Abjuration or Plakkaat van Verlatinghe, signed on 26 July 1581 in The Hague confirmed the decision made by the States-General of the Netherlands in Antwerp on 22 July 1581, formally declared all magistrates in the provinces which united in the Union of Utrecht absolved of their oath of allegiance to their overlord, Philip II of Spain. It stated that by oppressing and violating the ancient rights of his subjects, Philip was considered to have vacated his thrones in the Low Countries. As such, it was the formal declaration of independence of the Low Countries.

Hey anti - do you feel a year older ? Hope you had an enjoyable day. Did Kate Bush show up ?

On This Day: In 1582, October 5 Never Happened
On Oct. 5, 1582, much of Europe replaced the Julian calendar with the Gregorian calendar; the switch required the 10 days after Oct. 4 to be skipped.

Greetings Woopert - lovely day - Kate Bush if only - having spent the week in bed its hard to know how old I feel - saw the weather at the Open was a bit average hopefully you fared better - some precipitation here - ATB

The Throckmorton Plot was an attempt by English Roman Catholics in 1583 to murder Queen Elizabeth I of England and replace her with her second cousin Mary, Queen of Scots. The plot is named after the key conspirator, Sir Francis Throckmorton (cousin to Elizabeth Throckmorton, Elizabeth's first lady in waiting), who confessed to the plot under torture.

Evening anti. If Kate Bush had turned up, you'd have been "running up that hill" <laugh>. Nice day today, very warm here, and dry (so far) <ok>

Fears for Elizabeth’s safety were fanned by news of the assassination of the Dutch Protestant leader William of Orange in July 1584. Ahead of the opening of Parliament Lord Treasurer Burghley (Sir William Cecil) and Sir Francis Walsingham devised the Bond of Association to provide for the elimination of suspected assassins; this laid the necessary groundwork for the execution of Mary despite Elizabeth’s past refusal to put her on trial. To reinforce and enshrine the intent of the Association in statute law a bill for the queen’s safety therefore topped the Privy Council’s parliamentary agenda.

Hey Woopert - another sunny morning need rain desperately - back still a nuisance taking its time - yes the hill would have been run up and "mounted" glad the weather is good ATB

The Anglo–Spanish War (1585–1604) was an intermittent conflict between the kingdoms of Spain and England that was never formally declared. The war was punctuated by widely separated battles, and began with England's military expedition in 1585 to the Netherlands under the command of the Earl of Leicester in support of the resistance of the States General to Habsburg rule.

Evening anti. Hot here today, and they reckon we are in for a heat wave for a few weeks. Topless massage would probably help your back, but make sure you keep your socks on !!

Yes, but can't say I'm proud of it <laugh>. Very hot again today. Saw the Aircraft Carrier - HMS Illustrious - enter Portsmouth Harbour for the last time today, as it's being decommissioned from service. Very sad moment. Have a good day.

1591 Ivan the Terrible has been dead for four years. Feodor is still tsar but thought incompetent. Another of Ivan's sons, nine-year-old Dmitri, a possible heir to the throne, dies after his throat is cut. Officials claim that the boy accidentally cut himself playing with a knife during an epileptic fit. Believing that Dmitri has been murdered, mobs attacks and kill Dmitri's guardians.

On this date in 1594, a 70-year-old Portuguese physician was torn apart at Tyburn before a jeering London mob for attempting to poison Queen Elizabeth I.

Gooday Woopert - I'm up and about but its still a bit stiff - so is the back <whistle>- Hope you enjoyed the day there was a rumour you were seen loitering outside Saints Megastore but after 10 minutes you bottled it and legged it back down the road - was unclear whether you were going to bomb it or buy merchandise I tend to think the latter - a cloudy morning with the hint of dampness ATB

The Lambeth Articles were a series of nine doctrinal statements drawn up by Archbishop of Canterbury John Whitgift in 1595,in order to define Calvinist doctrine.

G'day anti. Unfortunately my morning in your old neck of the woods was work related - no spare time to go being frivolous in Saints Megastore spending my hard earned spondoolies on unwanted goods

Meanwhile in Thailand, bus drivers wear diapers
Lack of toilet breaks forces bus conductors to wear diapers!! If you have access to a clean toilet at your workplace, you’ll probably appreciate it a lot more after reading this. We usually take common things like toilets for granted, without once thinking about how lucky we are! Bus conductors in Bangkok, Thailand, don’t even get toilet breaks, they wear adult diapers instead, and are forced to answer nature’s call on the job.

Not Just the bus drivers but a few pensioner passengers probably join in - Gooday Woopert rained all night hurrah!! about time - Won darts came home with 3 chickens bangers steak and pork loin chops would have preferred Kate Bush though to go home with *sigh* as for "unwanted goods" you never never know what lies around the corner but I tend to think of you changing colours is about as likely as a plate of bacon sarnies being scoffed at a Jewish wedding - avagoodweekend ATB
