The Great Charter 1297: Statute

Edward I of England reissued the Charters of 1225 in 1297 in return for a new tax. "Constitutionally, the Magna Carta of Edward I is the most important". This version remains in Statute today (albeit with most articles now repealed).

1299 Charter

There had been a developing town where the River Hull met the Humber for about 100 years before the Charter. It was called Wyke and was owned by the Abbey of Meaux. In 1296 King Edward I bought Wyke, and the neighbouring settlement of Myton, from the monks of Meaux, as an investment and to provide a base for supplying by sea his troops in Scotland.

By this charter, dated 1 April 1299, King Edward gave to the town a new name, Kingston upon Hull, and the status of a borough. It was to become a self governing community, with its own court, coroner, market and taxation. There was to be a Warden, subsequently the Mayor, who alone was to represent the King. No other government official was to have any jurisidiction over the borough.

The charter is written on parchment, which is treated animal skin. It is written in Latin, and is addressed to the important people of the Kingdom. To verify it it is sealed with the Great Seal of England. This shows the King seated on his throne on one side and mounted on a horse on the other.
 
The Honda 1300 was an automobile produced by Honda from 1969-1973. The largest car ever manufactured by Honda to that point, the 1300 was a front wheel drive car released as a sedan and coupe, primarily intended to compete against Japanese automotive stalwarts such as the Toyota Corona and the Nissan Bluebird. An ambitious project spearheaded by Soichiro Honda, engineering delays and a high price against its competition hampered its success. However, lessons learned from the 1300 project would lead to the success of the Civic released in 1972, and the successor of the 1300 released in 1976, the Honda Accord.

The ICT 1301 and its smaller derivative ICT 1300 were early business computers from International Computers and Tabulators. Typical of mid-sized machines of the era they used core memory, drum storage and punched cards, but they were unusual in that they were based on decimal logic instead of binary.

Hope the surgery went o.k., anti. We are apparently due some cold weather end of the week, with possible overnight frost ! :steam:

1306 South Michigan Avenue was built in 1930 by architect Anker S. Graven. This sleek four-story Art Deco building, clad in limestone, was erected as the Paramount Publix Corporation as a film exchange, a venue for the presentation of films to the independent cinema operators throughout the Midwest who could rent them for exhibition at their theaters. The studio occupied the building up to about 1950, when it was taken over by the Equitable Life Assurance Company.

Methinks CF is extracting the urine - actually the "urban dictionary" comes up with some crackers on occasion - meanwhile chatting over the back fence - greetings woopert fine and sunny again taking the ancient Briton shopping then the doctors for him to have a skin cancer removed - must be catching - cheers

The Great Famine of 1315&#8211;1317 (occasionally dated 1315&#8211;1322) was the first of a series of large scale crises that struck Europe early in the fourteenth century. Places affected include continental Europe (extending east to Russia and south to Italy) as well as Great Britain. It caused millions of deaths over an extended number of years and marks a clear end to an earlier period of growth and prosperity between the eleventh to thirteenth centuries.

The Great Famine started with bad weather in spring 1315, universal crop failures lasted through 1316 until summer harvest in 1317; Europe did not fully recover until 1322. It was a period marked by extreme levels of crime, disease, mass death and even cannibalism and infanticide. It had consequences for the Church, state, European society and future calamities to follow in the fourteenth century.
