The Battle of Algeciras was a naval battle which occurred on July 25, 1278. The battle pitted the fleets of the Kingdom of Castile, commanded by the Admiral of Castile, Pedro Martínez de Fe, and the combined fleets of the Sultanate of Morocco and that of the Emirate of Granada, commanded by Abu Yaqub Yusuf an-Nasr. The battle was fought in the context of the Moorish naval expeditions to the Iberian Peninsula. The battle, which took place in the Strait of Gibraltar, resulted in a Muslim victory.

This battle coincided with a simultaneous siege of the city of Algeciras which lasted from 1278–79 and was commanded by the Infante Sancho. The Castilian prince would abandon the siege later in 1279 marking the end of the first action of the long battle for the Strait of Gibraltar.

Like clockwork and as it does every 12 months, in early 2001 Epson released its next-generation photographic printer, the Epson Stylus Photo 1280. (In some worldwide markets it is also called the 1290 — same printer, just a different name). There is also an 890 model, offing the same image quality but with a narrower paper transport. Everything I write here about the 1280 applies to the 1290 and also to the 890, in that particular case with the exception of paper-width handling ability.

Just shows ability etc was always there just took the right type of manager to make it happen - well done you guys pleased for you

Welsh War of Edward 1 1277 - 1282 Previous kings of England had made repeated attempts to invade the Welsh stronghold of Snowdonia. However, the feudal army was not suited to campaigning in mountainous country, where the Welsh simply disappeared into the high mountains, and after the feudal army disbanded at the end of its forty day period of service, the Welsh would come back down from the mountains and reoccupy their lands. Edward I responded to this in three ways. First, he altered the nature of his army. Many nobles appeared with a fraction of their full quota, and stayed on after the forty days in return for a wage, while he also paid for a large number of infantry, amongst whom there were a large number of south Welsh troops. Second, Edward embarged on a largescale road building program throughout Snowdonia, clearing forests to avoid ambush and allowing his troops much easier access to the Welsh heartland. Thirdly, he embarked on a huge program of castle building, by far the biggest undertaken by any English king - indeed, Wales was truly pacified before all of the castles were completed,. and were not tested until Glendowers revolt, over a century later.

Evening Woopert - Sports Day looms sunny and bright with a beer or two at the end - at the moment the minister of finance war and home affairs is trying to get me to have three alcohol free days a week its nigh on impossible with so few days in a week

After the death of King Alexander III in 1286, Scotland was plunged into uncertainty while a new heir was chosen. Eventually, with the aid of King Edward I of England, John Balliol was selected in 1292, but his was not to be a peaceful reign.
Refusing aid in England’s war with France, Balliol attracted the wrath of Edward and the two kingdoms descended into a conflict that would endure for more than 40 years. Some of the bloodiest battles in Scottish history took place in this time, immortalising the memory of such notable men as William Wallace, Andrew Murray, and Robert the Bruce.

Greetings Woopert - off to do some laps in the club pool which is quite remarkable after sports day - fine sunny morning here hope you've enjoyed a fine day as well - cheers

In February 1287 a storm hit the southern coast of England with such ferocity that whole areas of coastline were redrawn. Silting up and cliff collapses led to towns that had stood by the sea finding themselves landlocked, while others that had been inland found themselves with access to the sea.

The city of Winchelsea on Romney Marsh was destroyed (later rebuilt on the cliff top behind. Nearby Broomhill was also destroyed. The course of the nearby river Rother was diverted away from New Romney, which was almost destroyed and left a mile from the coast, ending its role as a port. The Rother ran instead to sea at Rye, prompting its rise as a port. The storm contributed to the collapse of a cliff at Hastings, taking part of Hastings Castle with it, blocking the harbour and ending its role as a trade centre, though it continued as a centre for fishing. Whitstable in Kent is also reported to have been hit by the surge.

In all, the storm can be seen to have had a powerful effect on the Cinque Ports, two of which were hit (Hastings and New Romney), along with the supporting "Antient Town" of Winchelsea. Meanwhile, the other Ancient Town of Rye was advantaged.

The storm is one of two huge ones in England in 1287. The other was the one known in the Netherlands as St. Lucia's flood in December, the following winter. Together with a surge in January 1286, they seem to have prompted the decline of one of England's then leading ports, Dunwich in Suffolk.

Hello anti. Sounds like you are building up to a big decision regarding the question of booze intake reduction ! Don't do it anti, stand firm. Good luck !

The Fall of Tripoli was the capture and destruction of the Crusader state, the County of Tripoli (in what is modern-day Lebanon), by the Muslim Mamluks. The battle occurred in 1289 and was an important event in the Crusades, as it marked the capture of one of the few remaining major possessions of the Crusaders.

From zero to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 7.2 seconds – with low fuel consumption and a 15,000 km service interval
What happens when KTM 1290 packs the attributes of the proven 75-degree V-twin into 1.3 litres of displacement? The result is an extremely lightweight, elemental engine filled with state-of-the-art racing technology, yet still even more sophisticated, durable and cultivated than ever. 132 kW (180 hp) peak power, 144 Nm maximum torque with 100 Nm as early as 2500 rpm – could there be better guarantees for explosive propulsion whatever the revs?

Good Evening Woopert - today is Anzac Day commemorating the Gallipoli Landings - it explains last nights storm thunder lightning hail wind rain etc etc - the orange and lemon tree got a right old touch up and theres not much left of the broad beans and runner beans lying flattened in the veggie patch - hope you managed some fine weather

The Siege of Acre (also called the Fall of Acre) took place in 1291 and resulted in the loss of the Crusader-controlled city of Acre to the Muslims. It is considered one of the most important battles of the time period. Although the crusading movement continued for several more centuries, the capture of the city marked the end of further crusades to the Levant. When Acre fell, the Crusaders lost their last major stronghold of the Crusader Kingdom of Jerusalem. They still maintained a fortress at the northern city of Tartus, engaged in some coastal raids, and attempted an incursion from the tiny island of Ruad, but when they lost that as well in 1302/1303 in the Siege of Ruad, the Crusaders no longer controlled any of the Holy Land.

1292 Royal Canadian Army cadet corps, originally designated the Alberta Military Institute Cadet Corps, was formed on 22 March 1926. Following the Second World War, the Corps was renamed "The Alberta United Services Institute Squadron (Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians))" on 17 May 1947. In 1950 the Corps was incorporated into 2376 Calgary Cadet Corps as A Squadron of the Battalion where it remained until 1955. The affiliation to the Corps remained active as the Regiment continued to directly sponsor A Squadron during this time. Originally only fourteen strong, the strength of the Squadron rose to almost sixty cadets when it was reformed as 1292 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians)) on 8 February 1955.

The papal conclave of December 23–24, 1294 was convoked after the abdication of Pope Celestine V in Naples. It was the first papal conclave after Celestine V restored the constitution Ubi periculum of Pope Gregory X, suspended by Pope Adrian V in July 1276. From that time every papal election has been a papal conclave. It is the first papal conclave held during the lifetime of the preceding pontiff, the second such occurrence taking place in 2013 following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.

The Battle of Dunbar was the only significant field action in the campaign of 1296. King Edward I of England had invaded Scotland in 1296 to punish King John Balliol for his refusal to support English military action in France. The battlefield is currently under research to be inventoried and protected by Historic Scotland under the Scottish Historical Environment Policy of 2009.
