Beyer Peacock Works No 6923 – NG 113 This locomotive was built by Beyer, Peacock & Company at Gorton, Manchester in 1939 for the South Africa Railways (SAR).
This locomotive is owned by the Sandstone Estates.
The locomotive has steamed in preservation and was last returned to operational condition in April 2019.
Ex-GWR Hall Class 4-6-0 No 6929 'Whorlton Hall' is seen on a Bournemouth to Newcastle relief express service. The locomotive is most likely to come off the train at Leicester as most GWR locomotives rarely travelled further north. The leading carriage is a former LNER 3rd Class Brake van designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. Built by Swindon works to Lot 340 in November 1941, No 6929 remained in service until October 1963 when it was withdrawn from 2D Banbury shed.
The fireman of 6931 “ALBEBOROUGH HALL” stands on points rodding, peering towards Ponsandane Box as his local parcels service is halted on the down main. The loco has a Truro shed plate on its front end, and is hauling a real mixture of stock, including a broccoli wagon.
Ex-GWR 4-6-0 49xx Class No 6933 'Birtles Hall' is seen entering Leamington station with a four coach local train in the early 1950s. John Copsey writes in Great Western Railway Journal that during the early part of the 1950s No 6933 was based at Oxford shed and would have probably worked another service home from Leamington later in the day. Built at Swindon works in December 1941, No 6933 was to remain in service until November 1963 when it was withdrawn from 2B Oxley shed to be scrapped by J Cashmores of Great Bridge.
Ex-GWR 4-6-0 Hall class No 6937 'Conyngham Hall' is seen standing at Platform 5 whilst at the head of a down Class A express service on 8th August 1964. Built at Swindon works during the Second World War in July 1942 No 6937 did not receive its name until October 1946. Its first shed was Oxford where it was recorded as being allocated in both August 1950 and March 1959. Fitted with a 3 row superheater No 6937 was allocated to Didcot shed in May 1965 although by December 1965 it was allocated to Oxford shed from where it was withdrawn in December 1965 to be scrapped by J Cashmore of Newport.
Colt 6940 upper. Roughly 700 rounds on it. Matech rear sight. Includes some misc. ergo ladder rail covers. C marked carrier, MPI bolt. Does not have a colt charging handle, has a new plain jane aero one.
