May 20th, 1932 - Amelia Earhart leaves Newfoundland, the 1st woman to fly solo across Atlantic.

Evening anti - 12 degrees again today, and dry. Sounds like you've booked a good cruise to Kiwi land. The only cruise I'm likely to be on in the forseeable future, is the ferry across the Solent, and no duty free ! Have a good day <ok>

Following the appointment of Adolf Hitler as German chancellor on January 30, 1933, the Nazi state (also referred to as the Third Reich) quickly became a regime in which citizens had no guaranteed basic rights. The Nazi rise to power brought an end to the Weimar Republic, the German parliamentary democracy established after World War I. In 1933, the regime established the first concentration camps, imprisoning its political opponents, homosexuals, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and others classified as “dangerous.” Extensive propaganda was used to spread the Nazi Party’s racist goals and ideals. During the first six years of Hitler’s dictatorship, German Jews felt the effects of more than 400 decrees and regulations that restricted all aspects of their public and private lives.

Evening Woopert - fine sunny morning see your 12 degrees double it and add 6 - this weather is so wrong cant get used to it and probably never will - sitting on a beach with sand up where the sun don't shine at Christmas time just doesn't do it - off shopping to the local mall where it will be bedlam and make the Dunkirk evacuation look like a garden tea party - shopping for my dad is so hard what do you buy a man who is 93 - we are going to look for audio books - wish me luck as you wave me goodbye cheerio here I go on my way reluctantly ATB

Famous people born in 1934 are Giorgio Armani, Charles Manson, Sophia Loren, Mary Quant, Lord Lucan, Brian Epstein, Donald Sutherland and Dame Maggie Smith.

G'day anti - dry today, and not too cold. Pompey got a well deserved draw at Cheltenham, but had the chances to have won the match, but what about your lads ? Convincing win over Everton, and three goals as well ! Can't be bad. Got a family christening to attend in Portsmouth tomorrow. Audio books are always a good idea, we got my father-in-law some as presents, when he found it difficult to read. Have a good day.

Mutiny on the Bounty 1935 is one of the best nautical adventure films of all time and one of MGM's greatest classics. The rousing, 18th century story of the Bounty's mutiny, directed by Frank Lloyd, was adapted from the first two volumes of the Charles Nordhoff-James Norman Hall 1932 best selling novel The Bounty Trilogy (composed of Mutiny on the Bounty, Men Against the Sea, and Pitcairn Island). It echoed the semi-documentary In the Wake of the Bounty (1933, Australia) which starred Errol Flynn in his movie debut as Fletcher Christian; both films were based upon the 1932 novel Mutiny on the Bounty by Nordoff and Hall.

Evening Woopert - 3 - 0 and I changed my prediction from a one all draw to 3 - 1 home defeat after seeing the teams - DOH ! - Result in the present department got an audio collection of John Le Carre novels 86 hours in total and 6 novels reduced from 359 bucks to 149.00 I must say that made the whole experience worth while although back up there again today to try and get a guitar pedal for my son - didn't know you could ride them thought you played them - farewelling a staff member at the club today after 28 years which should lead me to farewelling 28 beers to boot - ATB

The 1936 Berlin Olympic Games had been handed to Berlin before the Nazis came to power but now it was the perfect opportunity for Hitler to demonstrate to the world, how efficient the Nazi Germany was. It was also the perfect opportunity for the Nazis to prove to the world the reality of the Master Race. The Berlin Olympic Games gave the Nazis an opportunity to show off to the world as 49 countries were competing bringing with them their assorted media. For Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels, it was the perfect scenario.

Hey anti - Christening done and dusted, and back to the South Island. Another dry day, and not too cold. Have you finished your 28 beers yet ?! Have a good day <ok>

The Japanese first attacked the Australian mainland on 19 February 1942 when they launched a devastating air raid on Darwin in the Northern Territory. Two weeks later, more aircraft attacked Broome in Western Australia killing about 70 people. By the end of September 1943, Japanese pilots had flown 97 air raids against towns and bases in northern Australia. On 31 May 1942, the war came to the east coast when three Japanese midget submarines entered Sydney Harbour. In June 1942 a submarine lightly shelled the eastern suburbs in Sydney and then Newcastle. Japanese submarines also attacked coastal shipping, causing the loss of some 60 lives and 29,000 tons of shipping during the two months after the midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour.

8 May, 1945 – Eight days after the suicide of Adolf Hitler and the collapse of the Nazi rule in Berlin, V-E Day is celebrated throughout the UK. Churchill makes a victory speech and appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with George VI, Queen Elizabeth and The Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret. Street parties take place throughout the country.

Evening anti - still not feeling too brilliant, so spent day just resting. More like septic than sceptered Isle at the moment. 50/50 whether I go to work tomorrow or not. Best bit of Christmas for me, was the happy look on grandson's little face as he opened his presents (with a lot of help from his parents !). Lots of lovely toys to play with. Have a good day.

Forgive the interruption, but it will be Dec 31st soon, and as the clock turns past midnight it will be a new year.
How does it go "in with new". And before that, "out with the old."

    Just a thought.....

On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel. U.S. President Harry S. Truman recognized the new nation on the same day.

I got to get flowers with my dad for mums grave and on leaving the shopping centre some stupid bint in a Chelsea tractor (JEEP SUV) decided to cut across me and rearrange my front end - so now its off to the panel beaters to get a quote etc etc etc As you sit there feeling less that wonderful your grandsons face on Chrissy Day should cheer you up - less than two weeks to the cruise might be a good time to get the panel beating done - now there's a thought ATB
