I guess that because he has "F1" in his Twitter name, you assume that this must be a "work" account rather than personal? If it is a "work" Twitter account then why would he post about his Wife/house/football team/general everyday life? He puts more or less everything on this account so what would he need another account for? It's not an email or phone number where you need one for private contact with people, its use is specifically designed for getting updates of news/life to the masses.

Would you mind posting a link where Jake says he didn't care about F1 before he got the job? I'm slightly inclined not to believe that because in this link it is mentioned about his interview that "We had a good, open chat about the sport, my commitment, my knowledge and finally they asked me to count the steps to the lift while they had a chat. I was so nervous I quickly lost count, loitered outside the room and then when I returned they asked me if I'd like the job."

Clearly, the beeb found out what knowledge he had and whether he cared about the sport so either a) he knew nothing and the beeb were perfectly happy to let him do it anyway or b) he did know about the sport and this is why he got the job. I'm inclined to believe B. Even in the event that it was A and he genuinely doesn't know anything (which I would find hard to believe now considering that he's been part of it for 2 and a half years), it doesn't matter because he presents the show well in a way that it allows me to envisage being there and soaking up the atmosphere. Besides, we've got Brundle, DC, EJ and Ted Kravitz who give us all the info I could ever need. Plus websites such as James Allen's Blog and Scarbs' technical updates.

However, I do agree that maybe the jokey approach is going just a bit too far. On the whole, I prefer the friendly approach that they have going but I think they just need to tone it done a small step.

I don't think anyone would put up with the amount of commitment to travelling and jet lag that presenting the F1 show requires without actually enjoying and loving it. As I mentioned before, I think that Jake, like a lot of people, is a sports fan and thus if the opportunity arises he would naturally want to add things to his CV. Plenty of presenters who are known for one sport occasionally do others (especially when the Olympics roll around and we get football commentators doing Ice Hockey and such), it doesn't mean that they care less about their main job though. Murray Walker commentated on other forms of motorsport; BTCC, motocross, Ilse of man TT. Does that mean he didn't care about F1? Of course not.

I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree WestCoast.....Although I am right.

Talking about Humphrey being genuine - you can't help but trust him when he says...

Lots of 'Sunday Times' questions. SO MANY inaccuracies in that article. F1 does incredible business on the BBC-it's spiritual home! #bbcf1

I've no inside info on it's future...but I know little else gets the audience share and the millions that we do. #bbcf1 is a huge success.

Lee McKenzie also has something to say...

Sunday Times claims BBC is to axe F1.The inaccuracies in the article hint that the journalist knows as much as the rest of us! Not much!

All we can ask is that you keep watching and enjoying #BBCF1 and keep our viewing figures soaring! They are growing every race!

Got into the office at BBC HQ today & handily found an F1 team launch downstairs. Virgin present their 2011 car - Sarah Holt

<doh>

I also noted they called Boulier, Houllier  in the early version of the Kubica story. I get the feeling they dont have specialist F1 knowledgable people at the BBC other than Brundle and DC

I'll do it. Hey BBC if your watching or reading, i know more about F1 than all your bloggers and columists put together. I don't mind travelling the world for free, at least i won't write tripe all the time.

If I write tripe all the time does that make me more qualified for the job? I will even get my facts endlessly mixed up if that will give me the edge.

:(. Cant stand the ****ing adverts every 10 minuet on ITV or god forbid sky. Who the **** has ever watched BBC4 anyway.

I used to watch it for Mad Men but I just watch it on the internet now because you can watch it about 6 months sooner.

Lewis Hamilton's red bull seems to be leading the championship quite easily. That Vettel should have been fired by HRT by now, and they should get Sakon Yamamoto back, that guy kicked ass.

Andrew Benson is at it again.

Hamilton is widely regarded in F1 as the fastest driver in the world

Again letting his personal biases get in the way of any attempt at being neutral or at least correct.

In media land it doesn't matter what you know, if anything, just as long as you look good in front of a camera, if you don't believe me look at the leaders of our political parties, no experience, no real strength of character (unless you consider stabbning your brother in the back for a grab at power) but they all look good in front of the camera, so they got the job.

Why is that guy even employed by the BBC?

He just comes up with nonsense all the time. In that same article, he says:

The catalyst for Hamilton's discontent is another year in a car that is again not good enough to mount a realistic challenge for the title - the third in a row now for Hamilton at McLaren since he won the 2008 drivers' title in his second season with the team.

That's complete nonsense - and more pro-Hamilton bias. In 2010 he might have had the second fastest car, but Red Bull and Vettel made so many errors and basically left the door open for someone else to pick up the points Red Bull should have taken. Hamilton did it sometimes (Turkey), but it was Alonso who took advantage of the situation while Hamilton made rookie mistakes.

Well Forza, it seems your view comes with at least as much bias. Benson is employed because he is considered to ask the right questions (by enough people), as well as giving candid views and occasional insight (incite?!).

Journalism can look biased to people with a different view.

No, I disagreed with his comments and then justified my opinion, unlike Benson - and he does that a lot.

Journalism can look biased to people with a different view.

I may disagree with the opinion that Hamilton is the best, but that doesn't bother bother me - it's how he trys to pass off the comment as fact without proper justification that is frustrating.

"Hamilton is widely regarded in F1 as the fastest driver in the world" - since when has that been the case and who regards him as the fastest?

If he had said said "Vettel is widely regarded in F1 as the fastest driver in the world" (which I also disagree with), I wouldn't have complained, because at least in this case Vettel's current driving and the comments from ex-drivers back it up. Can't say the same about Hamilton.

When he was live at the GP's I thought he was a good host.

If we are all getting pissed off with the arrogance of Humphreys, then the down to earth style of Rider is the antidote.

Or,

Who would everyone like to see front F1 on the BBC and think they would do a genuinely good job?

I think Jeremy Clarkson would be great. He's an F1 fan, he doesn't mind making a prat of himself, and he could get the interviews that nobody else can.

If Clarkson started presenting F1, I would give up watching everything but the race as having to listen to him in the pre show and post race interviews would make my fists itch.

Humphrey is a fine presenter and I for one count myself lucky that we currently have the best produced F1 show since it was first televised.

Much as I like Clarkson, I do not think he'd be suited to this at all, since he would tend to steal the show rather than platform it.

Forza: I take your point.
