Thats management speak for "arrogant toss**r is it...? Flew to Aus on it 15 yrs ago and service wasnt bad..hed secured ome of the most lucrative routes though so no suprise he got bought out ..
Have you seen the film mate? Captures him perfectly - huge self confidence, short on humour, never dresses anything up to please others. He is also totally aware of this and it doesn't bother him an iota. His immense technical talent and courage make me forgive him almost anything. Apparently during the press interviews for the film, Chris Hemsworth, who plays Hunt, asked him how he was and got the answer 'bored'. What are you doing later? "more of this bullshit" Brilliant. Difficult, yes, a tosser? No. Can't help but love Hunt though. Massive faults, lived life to the max. As Lauda said " He was happy with one world championship, just to prove he could do it. He is the only driver I envied".
Cheers SB, im gonna hunt that out now. never heard nor cared about it before but sounds like a good watch.. Im stuck watching RED2 tonight (Bruce Willis) so something that wakes me up should be good.
Just read that the new (next year_ Golf Type R will have a pre-recorded soundtrack of engine noise, because despite its 280+bhp, its not noisy enough. Daft.
Sounds daft alright. They already use a sound symposer on the Focus RS. I'm not sure if I like such an idea. Isn't it kind of cheating?
I think even the latest sporty Renault Clio has such a device and a choice of noises to choose from. Anything to drown out the creaking plastic on it should be welcomed.
Does this mean you get a growly engine noise on the inside, but passers by don't get the same effect? Mate of mine works for a company which does computer tuning on cars, lives round the corner from me but his company is based in Budapest, he's back and forwards all the time. Few weeks ago I was walking the dog past his house when he comes roaring out yelling 'look at this' - he had just driven a very large 4 door Aston Martin back from Hungary with 2 technicians fiddling with the electrics all the way. Enjoyed the autobahns apparently. He was going to drop it off at the Aston factory down the road from us at Gaydon (right next to Jaguar). He wanted to see if we could fit the dog in the boot. We could, and it would have been churlish not to go for a spin. This thing made a sound like an ambush (thats for Roller) of tigers growling in unison. Excellent. Stan the dog didn't like it much though.
Astons, particularly the current V8's sound amazing. I think the current noise generators only effect the interior. I have read that external sound generators are being developed for electric cars, whose near silence can be seriously hazardous for pedestrians and cyclists.
So from a purely performance based perspective...dont sound generators or what ever you want to call them affect performance. I assume (rightly or wrongly) the are located in the outfeed / exhaust side of the engine. Does this not then become a restriction and ultimately affect performance..or am I ( as usual) completely wrong?
So you are not actually hearing the engine exhaust tone? its a "recording" or something? I havent looked into how they work but I guess they have to change in symetry with the revs. I suppose it could be a preset sound but as basic mechanics determine...any restriction in exhaust has an affect on efficiency.....?
Correct, I think it is linked to the audio system and takes no influence from the exhaust at all. In those circumstances, it should have no impact on performance. A real gimmick and probably fun for just a matter of minutes.
WatfordR is correct - its an audio soundtrack matched to the gears / revs to provide an 'exhaust soundtrack'. Not actually linked to the exhaust system at all. Just another thing to wrong 5 minutes after the warranty expires...
Oh ok.....i personally think thats a terrible idea. Why would you want that? not even hearing the sound of your own car......Bit like me driving down the road in my Audi (yes i know!) and playing a recording of an F1 car !!! Each to thier own i suppose but if you have the money, why not just buy a car that makes that sound in the first place...?
PS...Im purposely avoiding commenting on the type of person ho would want this gimmick as i know anotherWat has an extravagant car history and must have come across one of these before. I dont want to offend him........
Queens - I seem to recall it was to do with an EU directive on noise emission levels. I may have dreamt that after listening to a UKIP bloke on the radio
