Yeah he's the best all rounder in the world. Hence him breaking all those records and being voted MVP and so on and so on.

Doesn't work like that. IPL bidding isn't indicator of best in the world. In fact iirc stokes himself said he was so desperate to play in ipl that he set his price low and was surprised when bidding went to what it did

In ICC rankings stokes and Ali are very close

was it your brother he punched or something? Not sure why you seem to think he's no good when IPL teams obviously think he is

MVP works like that. That's 20-20 though.

For the sake of argument I'm happy to lose this one and put those three ahead of him. Not that i necessarily agree. Then he's the fourth best in the world. None of the three are playing for England. He is a massive loss. Massive with the bat, massive with the ball. His absence doesn't improve him. He's good regardless.

IPL trams broke records for 2 afghan players including an 18 year old leg spinner. Who I think out performed stokes with the ball.

Was it your gay dad Stokes was defending that you think he is the best in the world?

<laugh> toys out the pram and everything!!

So what you're saying is that IPL clubs will just throw money at a player they think is rubbish regardless?

Makes perfect sense - I know we're on a Sunderland forum and my club often does that but surely the IPL is different.

A spinner who is a bowler only out performs an all rounder - wonders will never cease!

Having watched an awful lot of cricket over the last few years, Stokes is probably the best I've seen (including Jadeja, Al Hasan etc.)

Admittedly I've seen more of Stokes but I have seen a lot of the others too. I can't pick an all rounder I'd rather have in the test setup

    :emoticon-0148-yes:

At least you didn't resort to abuse mate. Its only a discussion.

FYI I like stokes but I compare him to Freddie (oneod my favourite players). Freddie stats are not all that but he had something. Similarly I don't think Stokes is what he is made out to be and I agree with Warney when he said to beefy that moeen was a better allrounder. BUT I think stokes this morning/afternoon in Australia would have been a lot more in the Aussies faces where as moeen was like a lamb. If that makes sense?

Btoady didn't do all that much with the ball but I thibk he unsettles the Aussies with his "chirping". Sometimes you just need that

That's Stokes... He's an absolute animal. We don' have the personalities in the team that we need. He offers that in massive, massive way.

<laugh> toys out of the pram? You asked if Stokes punched my brother and that was why I didn't rate him

Going by your method of measurement I was wondering if it was your gay dad he was defending as you seem to be in love with him

Those players I named are not my choices but ICC rankings

Stokes is OK, probably England's joint top all rounder with moeen stats wise but in world cricket he isn't.

Pogba isn't the beat MF in the prem and lukaku isn't the best forward. But they must he as they cost a lot according to your logic

    That I can agree with.

England have no personalities currently, or certainly not the right kind

Whatever man - learn to take a joke - I thought people from the Premier League forum were better at having the piss taken than some on here. You threw your toys out of the pram with the comment about my "Gay Dad" - (homophobic?) Ben Stokes is from Durham, I am also from Durham, my cricket team used to trains at the riverside (Durham Cricket ground) and I saw quite a bit of the players, including stokes, when not away on England duty. Stokes is a class fella and, as I say, I wouldn't swap him for any of those mentioned. Some are better than him with the ball and some better with the bat but I can't see anyone better with both (average wise) in the test arena. And I think he's the best fielder in the world at the moment

As I said, there was no "Abuse" at all - but you seemed very quick to bite when I made my comment as, from what I can see on here (up until your comment to @Disco down under ) you seemed to be basically slating Stokes - if I have misunderstood then I apologise but it did seem like you have something against Stokes for some reason.

    <cheers>

My initial comment was about how Stokes is getting better with his absence.

The response to that about him being best in the world tickled me tbh. No malice etc just found it funny in the context of my initial comment.

It happens with players at utd. Each absence makes the likes of Herrera from " useless twat" to "of only Herrera were in the squad"

The 11 on the field escape discussion/hammering. As boycott said if the top order got out with good deliveries fair enough but swiping at wide deliveries to be caught behind? Could bring back Freddie and Ben and no chance<laugh>

Did you see the lbw that root was given out to? Sure it was overturned on appeal but the manner of that I would have given him out on principle <laugh>

Yeah - straight ball no shot offered!! Awful - he's a class player but he's out of form at the moment. Think he's struggling with the captaincy. We should just make the 12th man captain then it can't impact on their performance!!!

It's stupid because so many of them looked OK then got themselves out. Cook has been awful for the last 10 innings though (or something like that)

While I can understand your sentiments, I believe common sense should be a consideration in our thought processes

I came to Aus after working for 20 years in England never out of work a lot of the time on a 48hr week, for which England pays me a pension of 25 pounds a week to live on, a figure that will never change

Say some hypothetical person came to Australia a couple of years ago at the same age I was, they would receive on starting work an amount equal to 9% of their earnings ( Not only wage ) paid into an account in their name and number which only they have access to, this amount in no shape or form is deducted from their earnings it is a totally extra payment, this figure will rise over the next three years to 12%, at the present rate and an average wage this would be 50 pounds a week, this is a tax free payment, you can do the sums and at retirement age with the interest compounding each year this person will retire a AUD millionaire,

I feel while our allegiance to our country of birth is important so to is my Wife and family , in this instance I find Australia to be the better provider
I should add this money cannot be accessed until retirement, unless you have a very good reason

I don't equate my nationality with a pension. I don't really see how that comes into it but you're allowed to identify however you with. You're free to consider yourself whatever you want. I wasn't judging that. I was disagreeing with the fact you clumped me with you as an Australian.

I live here but I'm British. I'll never take citizenship because I'm British. My family are British. The music I listen to is British. The TV I watched as a kid was British. The pubs I drank and grew up in were British. The subculture I identified with as a younger man was British. For me, for whatever reason I would, transforming myself into an Australian would feel like a betrayal.

As I say, you can do as you wish but don't judge me based on yourself. You and I are different. No better and no worse. Just different.
