Cook rolling back the years. It's quite clearly still there. He's 244 not out over night. Fingers crossed that he can add to it tomorrow morning.

Broad has looked his old self, too.

Pretty optimistic, I can't see Anderson hanging around long personally. I will be sort of worried if he does - I want the pitch to be doing something!

I still have a concern that they'll get 300 and set us 130ish and we are all out for 7 runs.

Cook needed a big score, shame it has taken him so long, but better late than never. We need to win this test now, for the players to regain some pride, a bit like a certain Championship team I can think of. <ok>

I can't hep but feel that this epitomises the England cricket team.

Cookie struggling at the risk of getting dropped so gets in nets and sorts it. Why not after the 1st test? Because he wasn't at risk and the team can get to feck !

Broad struggling, had a knick so no confidence and batting like Anderson. About to be dropped gets in nets and overcomes everything.

3-0 down and nothing to play for but themselves, and voila

    Is it daft though fella?

Isnt this how things go, far too often? Place confirmed on next tour/series and poor performance's. Then a good one just before next one

Credit where it is due, Cooks performance judged from any angle was outstanding
I am sure that Cook himself wanted a lot more than you for to have done well over the whole tour, in fact Aussie cricketers have been critical of the time he has spent in the nets here, suggesting he should get away from it for a while and play a game of golf or something
Seems he has had the last laugh on all of us

Depends how you look at it fella

He scored the 200+ but has 100 in 8 innings
As boyvd said he scored in ybr one game where there was no impact

Interesting also how Stuart broad takes 4 but then has average speed of 80mph for second innings.

Have to say nothing to be positive about overall. Even Anderson and his 5 wicket's had zero impact and outside of that he was economical but took 11 wickets

England need to really think about what they need to.do.to be effective

I thought Root was ok but obviously could have done with a big score.

I thought Anderson was actually pretty good considering the conditions. 17 wickets when he wasn't suited to the pitches and had less innings to bowl at them than the aussies did. With support he could have been the series leading wicket taker.

Malan looked handy. Cook did something pretty incredible but was invisible otherwise.

Beyond that there was nothing to get excited about.

I've never been hotter than when I was sat in the stand at the SCG. It was torture.
