Who did we ship out? What comments (because we always take as factual, any pissed off ex employees comments)
George Boyd was sold at the end of the window because he couldn't fit in the 25 man squad. Remember Steve Harper when he got drawn into our relegation when doing commentary for the BBC. He attributed our downfall to a complete lack of training in attack and only ever focussing on defending, and the team not playing as a team.
If you remember anything from that season, that doesn't sound far fetched at all. Our entire game plan was to give the ball to Elmo and Robbo who would launch the ball into the box from anywhere past the halfway line. The OPTA stats for that season didn't make good reading, a standout statistic was that we played less through balls (7) throughout the course of an entire season than any other team managed in a single match.
And of course using Tom Ince and Robbie Brady as lone strikers, pulling off any/all attacking players after taking a lead. Sticking with 5-3-2 despite having a squad packed with wingers and only one striker who was performing consistently, forcing players into unnatural positions and roles that did not suit their attributes.
Bad management and a complete inability to get the fantastic squad of individual players to play together as a team was why we got relegated. Yes there was some bad luck with injuries but every team has that and we definitely had the (full 25 man) squad to cope with it.
