In football and in rugby, women players seem to get a lot more caps than men.
I think they get into the teams at a younger age and go on longer. Not sure if they play more games per year than men.
Also, with the lack of depth in the women's game, players can dominate a position. Their clubs don't stop them playing either.

England's women's rugby have players on 141 and 137 caps. Top man, 127.

It appears that 43 women footballers have more than 200 caps.<yikes>

111, that's an odd number, know as Nelson, for some reason, in cricket. Whenever it appeared on the score board, as 111 or multiples thereof, either as a team or batman's score, there was an old umpire, David Shepherd I think , who would stand on one leg, do a jig and turn a circle when umpiring at square leg, to ward off evil spirits.

He had some other odd habits - research him on Wikipedia.

And we think football can be strange....

The introduction of more substitutes and the plethora of friendlies inflate caps. One gets a single cap if you play 90 minutes or brought on in injury time. Surely a player’s record should distinguish between starts and subs to give a better reflection of that players international record.

I remember as a lad reading Gareth Edwards or someone around that time overtook Ken Jones’ international cap record of 44. Those 44 caps were earned I believe by playing the only 4 internationals played in a season for 11 consecutive seasons.

Back in the day, there were no subs in rugby, then subs only if a doctor said a player was unfit to continue, before tactical subs were finally allowed.
Phil Bennett was the first Wales rugby substitute In 1969. The first ever official rugby sub was a year earlier on a lions tour to SA when Mike Gibson replaced Barry John.
Tactical substitutions were only introduced in 1996, so after Edwards time.
There were 4 games a year in the 5 nations. There were also the odd games against touring sides. Edwards played from 67 to 78 and got 53 caps, so more than 4 a year, given he missed a few with injury (though not many).
Some international games were designated 'non-capped internationals', so players could have played more times than they were credited with.

Across generations, it's difficult to compare numbers. It's apples and pears.

A few rugby clubs in the Rhondda used to give you half a game to your total if you came on as a sub.

Jay da Silva, Charlie Savage and Luke Harris called up as replacements.

Shocking decision. Fingernail offside. Not a part of the body likely to score from.

The Spanish ref gave us sod all the whole game. It looked like he was trying to find ways for us to lose.

Iceland will be up for it on Tuesday after their 2.0 win today.

Is it coincidence or something more fundamental that in all of Bellamy’s games in charge Wales have not scored a second half goal?
