This is why clubs of our size just cant break into the top 6 anything like regularly

Whereas I think this is the only way we will ever break into the top 6. Deal upon deal, year after year, gradually getting bigger until we are up there.

Vin

Think you are both right. Bringing in players cheap, then selling them for big profits and somehow finding the next great player for cheap is probably the only chance you have.

But it's not a great chance; it's almost impossible. Which is why you don't see clubs like Southampton breaking into the top 6 very often.

Lovely meltdown on the Echo site as well:

Partially my fault, I had been guilty of teasing big time on there, trouble is that some people take me seriously and I have gained a few stalkers who see my sign on and instantly hit the thumbs down button, quite amusing but all rather silly.

Does your name begin with an "O" by any chance?

I think that the board of SFC must think their fan base is composed solely of headless chickens. Once they would have ignored speculation, but now they come out quickly to hose the fans down before we hit critical. :)

On a side issue, Sky did a statistical comparison of Pedro and Mane. The conclusion: Pedro is a better finisher than Mane, but Mane was better for most other factors. :) Just got to work on that finishing.

So Utd leak false info out that they have bid for Mane. Just because they lost out on Pedro? Or they are after some one else and hiding it. Sad really.

Such a twattish move if true. Hopefully doesn't effect Sadio's head too much.

Never mind, another pantomime villain - who we got now? Liverpool, Spurs and United. Racking them up!

I did say that I don't think he will leave. However, if he does, I think it will be disaster out for our season. My opinion, and many will disagree, but he is currently the high point in the team for me.

Me too - he has a definite x factor that the puts him for me a cut above eg. Bolasie. He's unpredictable to the point where he can miss an open goal from six yards out, and score the fastest ever PL hat trick. Without him, our team becomes a little more ordinary at this point in time. He is vital to our chances in Europe, and gives us an extra dimension that we don't have without him. I want him for another season, so I really hope he doesn't go.

But regardless, I support the finest business model in the world, and will continue to support that business model no matter who comes in and out its doors.

Doubt he will get that many.

Me neither.
And we shouldn't ever forget the Academy, which not only sustains our business model, but every few years provides us with a Bale/Oxo/Shaw level of player who we can introduce to the first team for a couple of years at least.

Not so much anymore, I'm afraid. We'll be lucky to get a year with the ones of that standard.
That's really what most winds me up about a lot of this - a club deserves two seasons minimum for taking a chance on a player, and any human being with any moral fibre in their being should knuckle down for us for that long before getting seduced by the sirens softly singing YNWA. Even if it is funny to watch them get dashed on the rocks straight after.
