Just been reading another Daily Mail article where, in passing, they mention Jose being lined up for Villa [what a joke, I'm not bothering to give it respect by linking it].

Anyway, in the comments below are Saints and Villa fans. One Saints fan put this:

Hahahahhaa. Jose Fonte at Villa, dream on. Why on Earth would he leave Saints for Villa. Hahaha.!

Which I completely agree with, but in direct response a Villa fan put this:

Because you've had one good season 😴😴 - you'll be relegated in the next 4 years.

Thank goodness I didn't have my teacup to my lips because the tea would have gone everywhere. I genuinely burst out laughing loudly. Much bigger than just a LOL. :D

Not so much a transfer piece as a non-transfer piece. Article saying we are not selling Fonte....posted it because it has a video of Fonte's best bits (well on the football field anyway). :)

Sends out strong message to the rest of the league. Southampton are not a selling club (when the player in question is in his 30s, and a not very good team is tentatively linked to him)!

Win-win for both parties.
Agent makes story up and gets it in papers, showing he has power to put client in driving seat.
Saints get to show fans they are strongly resisting the sale, and can hold on to key players.
Client gets potential improved contract - buys agent a Greek island at some point in the future.

One more:

Player sees it is possible to escape the clutches of raving, fanatical, Island bound, lusting, senior lady and can now safely watch Misery without half an eye over his shoulder :)

My main concern is that we have done this window on the cheap so far. Not sure why given the vast money being thrown to clubs in the premier league these days. Hopefully this will be rectified over the rest of august although talk of wanting only 1 more player is a concern - hopefully a bluff

Gaston and Osvaldo prove that big transfer fees do not guarantee success.
We've not exactly been scratching around for free transfers either and the majority of the signings so far have decent top level pedigree and international experience
