So from RMC (French media - very relaible), Cabella has arrived at OM and Thauvin is due in Newcastle this afternoon. Sky are reporting the same, stating that Thauvin has a medical booked for tomorrow.

So we are losing Cabella? Not that impressed with that. Shame and no real progression squad wise in terms of numbers (although he may be better). I'd have hoped we keep both. I hope that isn't our defender budget blown <laugh>

Yes its like one step forward one step back, however at least we won't have to endure that pompus commentator saying cabbelar.

But isn't it - getting rid of a No. 10 (that we have plenty of), replacing him with a winger (that we need) and all for less than we originally bid for him previously?

    Seems good to me!

Er, no it's not - we are replacing a player who we do not need with a player we do need!

As we shuld all know - when a player becomes available and is right for us we should be going for it even if we need players in other positions. I assume we are aiming for at least 1 defender!

    Patience is a virtue!

He's most likely not any better and fans wont give him time.

Its one out and one in hence why i don't agree its a step forward.

You can't just assume hes going to be a success because most aren't.

I think we had the conversation in relation to Riviere etc last season.

Patience I feel we've been patient enough.

I will say it one more time but we are replacing a player who would not play as we have 2/3 other players ahead of him in his position with a player who plays in a position everyone would say is a position that we need to improve. Should not matter if it is one in one out.

By your logic then neither will Mitro, Wijnaldum or Mbemba! - Who all played in a similar strength league or a worse league!

Also, not the clubs fault if a lot of fans are whingey whiney ****wits who complain at everything and won't give anyone a chance unless they give a 10/10 performance for the first 10 games!

But you haven't changed your argument once as to why this would be a poor signing other than others haven't made it so he won't!

Can only have so many players in the squad and by my last count we have something like 29 over 21's in the squad leaving four that can't be registered this season, Vuckic is off, Cabella apparently switching, Just need to drop Gouffran, Marveux and Willo at a taxi rank.

Cabella's record in the french league beats Thauvin's in terms of goals/assists, thats with them both playing on the wing.

However Cabella is 26 now with Thuavin being 22. in over 2000 minutes of PL football Cabella managed 1 goal and 2 assists, and im just going to put this out here, i think Thauvin will easily destroy that.

Thauvin is naturally left footed, very good at set pieces and has worked extremely hard on tracking back, long and short passing and many OM fans agree. However last season Thauvin didnt have a preseason due to injury and looked jadded in most games lacking fitness, but still covering more grass than Ayew on the other side.

I genuienly feel this will be a step up. He will offer more protection to the full back as well as providing deadly supply to the strikers. His stronger, faster and posses great skill.

I liked cabella, but he was weak and he went missing in games or kept falling over expecting fouls. He had one great game against chelsea at stamfod bridge where he looked like messi, but Goufran and obertan had the odd good game, Its not enough.

We will have better balance and more consistancy from Thauvin. We should all be really excited.

I agree Cabella is **** but so is the majority of the squad.

It's not often this occurs but i didn't realise he was 26.

I have no problem with the one in one out scenario regards wingers/10's (personally I think Cabella can play wide but hey ho). Surely though we retain Cabella and offload some of the other players if the issue is squad space? We have Riviere, Gouffran, Willo, Vuckic, Ferguson, Gaël Bigirimana, Marveaux, Sammy, and even Obertan. Even Tiote at a push given he looks done. Yet we are offloading Cabella and Abeid? Strange scenario for me and a complete lack of patience with Cabella - he was terrible I don't deny, but it was his first season. Abeid I just don't know what he has done wrong.

Personally I just look at it like you want 2 for every position - wide players should be Cabella, Thauvin, Aarons, Sissoko with Roberts as the additional.
Centrally I'd have went with Anita, Colback, Gini, Abeid with Kemen as the additional. Then you have the 10 role which SDJ, Perez could fill. Striker wise you then look to Mitro, Cisse plus one more.

I'm just struggling with our squad building. Perhaps its simply Thauvin couldn't happen without Cabella. So Obertan stays and Cabella moves out. Obviously Obertan not as good but maybe the overall goes up if Thauvin proves better than Cabella.

I'm ok with it generally but I'll not be if we don't get a left back and centre back because that is stupid. Stevie Wonder knows we need these two as a priority.

On the above I'll openly say I still think this squad lacks grit and could do the usual fold when under the pump. Just a personal opinion on the lack of knowledge of the league and general temperament of the squad. Hopefully I'm wrong. I just wouldn't back them in a dogfight which we will be in if don't get some defenders.

Thauvin is also pretty handy with his fists. Him and Mitrovic together will be interesting. Thauvin will get stuck in as he likes a tackle. This is an exciting signing the more I think about it. We just need to complete the re-building with a good left back and maybe a CB.
