Britain wasn't some great lush utopia before Thatcher, and unions were totally out of hand and something did need to be done, it still does, I would never join a union, as they do far more to damage the economy than help it. Generally Unions help their members and damn the consequences. However, what this bitch did was pure evil and over the top and she enjoyed it.
The problem I have with your naive outlook, is that it is far too simplistic. It is much like the age old argument from childless people who moan and complain about paying for things like education or child benefits, totally forgetting that they were children once, and also, who will be their doctor when they are 78 and sick, if everyone took their selfish attitude of not having any kids?
If we were to play out your ideal world, we would have the riots we had in the 1820's when the rich thought it was great to be rich and to **** the rest, well the rest get pissed off and can burn your big house down. You only have to look at when the tories are in power, as each time that happens there are riots, because the thick tory bastards always over simplify their policies and treat everything as black and white, the most recent example is this spare-room tax. The tories, or the tick twats who vote them in, never learn from history, the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer ALWAYS causes public unrest, but each time they try it again, trying to hide what they are doing, but each time they are found out and there are riots.
Yes it is frustrating to dwell on the scroungers, but that is a small percentage of people who need some sort of propping up. Where would you be with no bin-men? hardly a taxing job, but it needs doing, and you are not really going to pay a great deal to get someone to do it, but you cannot squeeze the income of a bin-man too much before he is up in arms, just because the tories don't respect him in the slightest, and think he is there to be walked all over.
Look at it this way, compare it to the common agricultural policy.. Do you want to pay £3 for a pint of milk? Or do you want Europe to pay £2.50 of your taxes to the farmer, and for you to only pay 50p for that pint? Either way it costs £3 for that pint. Same with low paying jobs. Either pay the bin-man and his cleaner wife £35,000 each, or swallow the hidden taxes that mean they have an acceptable quality of life. But if you tell the farmer, you are only giving him 50p, or the bin-man that he can't have top up benefits, then both will tell you to **** off and you get no milk and your bins are overflowing and you have rats, all because you feel you should keep your money for yourself. It is never that simple!
Lets not forget her part in getting Tate & Lyle to close their Liverpool works and move it all to London, with lovely tax breaks.

Besides Brixton and Dagenham its all "the London Bubble" effect. They never experience ANY of the suffering we did up here. They didn't have their close knit working-class communities ripped to pieces, they didn't have their livelihoods snatched away for them for no other reason than committing the crime of working in the Public Sector. They didn't have or see people close to them going without food, cold, and attempting, sometimes successfully, to commit suicide because they had no hope left and couldn't face failure as a Father for not being able to put bread on the table and provide for his family.
The people in the "London bubble" will never fully understand why that **** was so evil and why good, normal, honest, hardworking, friendly and honourable people were moved to publically celebrating the ****s death in public in Glasgow, Liverpool, Brixton and Manchester.
Its the same now with the Banking crisis and the double-dip recession that followed. People in the "city" have no idea what this recession is or whats going on outside of their bubble to families all over the country.
Like a reporter and commentator said last year "for many, in London but also many parts of the South East and South West, there is no recession and there never has been since the credit crunch kicked in.
If Thatcher hadn't sold out our complete manufacturing and utilities/power industry to foreign businesses for them to make a fortune out of us and not put a penny of that back into our Country through Privatisation, people in the North may have also been in that bubble too.
That is around 0.001% of the benefit recipients though I've seen esitmated.
What about the overwhelming majority of people who are on benefits and have paid in most of their lives and need the benefits to get by? Do these millions of people deserve to be collateral damage in a war against a few spongers?
I'm all for stopping benefit spongers and would support it if it was done in a way that ONLY penalised the Sponger and not those who were legitimately claiming benefits.
What the right wing Tory-led Government is doing is using the demonisation of a few spongers to cut benefits to EVERYBODY on benefits whether they deserve it or not, whether they've paid in or not, whether they need it to exist or not.
I can't support that and neither should any charitable and compassionate human being with even a smidgeon of empathy.
There are so many more sensible things that could be cut, like Trident, MPs expenses, overseas aid (not against it it should just be further down the priorities list ATM) that won't cause people to go hungry, or lose peoples houses etc, but they pick on welfare because they want to, because its ideological.
Just like you and your other right wing ******s who are so misinformed, you are always led by ideology whether its good Politics or not, whether its good for the Country or not, and this is a perfect example. You people just cannot stand, cannot abide the fact that anybody, ANYBODY, whether they have paid in or not, whether they need/deserve it or not, can get taxpayer money (thats the well off people who actually bother to pay any tax in the first place mind) without working for it.
It really is that simple with the Righties. It soon changes though once its THEM or a loved one who falls on bad times and needs Govt and Taxpayers assistance. Its the same ideology as right wingers in the US who feel sick at the idea of the Govt providing free healthcare to its citizens. If they can't afford healthcare then tough, they can die. I always thought that when Liverpools fans where held up to the cold light of witty critique all that came of it was that we are still the most successful English Footbal club of all time, still one of the biggest clubs in the country, and probably always will be, and that Spurs would do well to maybe learn lessons from us on how to successfully fill an empty trophy cabinet, although they could learn that lesson from the Mancs, Arsenal, hell even Chelsea.
They have never achieved anything of note on a continental or global scale, most people in Asia have never even heard of them, yet to listen to them speak you would think they had achieved more than most and where up there with us and the Mancs.
Football is cyclical. They have no massive global fanbase, no oil money and a small stadium with no signs yet of this new one starting to be built or when it could be finished. Without at least one of these things as soon as their better players, well Bale, leaves to bigger and better things, they'll be finished. Levy won't spend. he never has and he never will.
In 5 years time they'll be back to midtable mediocrity while we'll beck in the CL every season.

This is where i'm coming from ,I started work and paying taxes and Ni at the age of 16 and worked up until I was 42 the last 13 years as self employed.Due to my wife becoming ill through her work (multipe injections given over too short a period) I now find myself relying on the benefits system because i had to give up work to care for my wife.So excuse me if i'm a little pissed off at some of the attitudes on this topic.
We are now seen in the eyes of many thanks to the Sh*te rhetoric of this coalition as scroungers and are going to see are income reduce in real terms as the benefits are capped at 1% which is lower than rate of inflation.Oh and the fact that i need to sleep separately from my wife due to her illness isn't enough to stop the Ar%eholes from hitting me with bedroom tax as well.Carers like me save this country £119 BILLION a year..http://fullfact.org/factchecks/cost_social_care_uk_health_nhs-2701.,but hey let's not let this get in the way of demonising the unfortunates and getting the public to look at the smaller picture while the bigger one goes unnoticed.
