Mweh, she belonged to an era, good or bad, right or wrong. Like most leaders with conviction politics she left with blood on her hands both metaphorical & literal.
Revisionism has been going on, both left & right, since the eighties about the events, the reasons why and their lasting effects.
Its never as simplistic as it's "all their fault" no matter who (including her) is saying it.
My life wasn't defined by her despite a majority of it being during and after her time in power and I come from a back ground that without going into detail, should have been most effected by her policies.
So on that basis I'll not be jumping for joy at the death of anyone nor will I be particularly mourning simply because a public figure I had no personal contact with is dead.
Mass hysteria either grief or hate is a waste of minutes on the clock.

I wonder if they are down hell now discussing who abused miners (minors) the most?
In my honest opinion, the break up of the Soviet Union has been the primary mover in opening the floodgates for all these 2-bit nations to now have a pop at the Western way of life.
They knew how to keep people in check, cold war or not

But today I heard many people from the old Europe saying on TV that they were sad to hear of her death as she freed them from Communism. You could ask many eastern European countries people are they happier now?
No mate I was telling you they ARE both self confessed Thatcherites. Something for you to think about next time you're sticking up for her "legacy"

Bit stupid to accuse those of us who lived as adults through the period of "jumping on a bandwagon". You claim to be looking at the bigger picture but your words suggest you're missing it completely. The big picture shows the long-lasting devastation caused to communities by Thatcherism, the return to 19th Century values of selfishness and greed and disregard for others, and the idea that the workers are only fit to earn a pittance lining the pockets of the privileged (if you don't believe that one read up on Keith Joseph- a major architect of Thatcherism).
The unions had become too politicised and that needed addressing- but their solution was not to put the power back into the hands of the people, but to remove it completely- leaving the working classes with less say in their own lives than they'd had since the beginning of the Labour movement.
Conservatives attack the welfare system as a drain on the country, but the reason it's not economically viable for some to work is not because benefits are too high, but because minimum wages are too low. This is all the result of the monetarist policies of Milton Friedman adopted by the Thatcher government. The small number who are milking the system are not typical and highlighting their devious activities paints a false picture and gives the Daily Mail brigade something else to harumph about.
As for privatisation, selling the family silver is an act of desperation, putting essential services in the hands of private profit seekers is an act of social vandalism.

Think you will find the highest it reached was 3.3M in 1984, so how you come up with 5 Million is beyond me, but lets not ruin a good post even if it is crap
Thatcher's government was in my opinion the most underhanded there has ever been in this nation of ours, and many independent survey's put the true unemployment figures at over 5 million..There was also dubious goings on with her later election victories, with the normally very accurate exit polls giving the Tories 10% less votes in many critical constituencies...This has never happened either before or since..
