Calling Mandela a terrorist, while supporting the murderous Pinochet, Hussein and Suharto regimes is more than a little distasteful. Thatcher only died once, peacefully, and after a full life. She got far more than she deserved.

Now there's an idea for a TV series.... Zombie Thatcher. Stealing milk, preying on the defenceless and sucking the life out of the country.
    Nah, it's just too implausible..........

    .......isn't it?

True; that's the issue with FPTP. But she won 3 successive elections & her party won a 4th after that. Always funny that systems are only complained about while it goes against you (not you as in you Bluff as I don't know your politics). Labour talked about system change while in opposition then conveniently forgot as it then delivered them 3 consecutive terms in power. The inconvenient truth is that enough people (outside the toffs; you know that ONE % they talk about now) voted for her repeatedly and for more reasons than nationalist jingoism.

Its been an annoyance of mine that the left consider the working man duped or thick when they vote in favour of something unpalatable or in opposition to the utopian rhetoric they spout but wise when they believe they will deliver it after repeated failures. Its why the PLP has become as remote as the Tory party from the working man. They ALL tap us on the head and say "there there, trust us, we know what's good for you little people" when the Labour movement (while needing to "professionalise" their approach to an extent) started producing career politicians that had never worked a day in their life was when it really got beaten. Creating the bogeyman or woman and blaming all ills on her, gave her more power than she had or deserved and allowed them to ignore why they had lost sight of their "morals"

Its also why I find it strange to hear people call Blair a Thatcherite & yet 57% of the collective labour card carrying members (not just the PLP) voted him in as leader when he was fairly open about moving away from social equality & nationalisation & towards market economics. Power has always been the political game. Morals are only ever raised aloft by the opposition because they don't have the power and quietly put away when they do out of expediency/necessity.

I can criticise her policies; particularly a complete lack of any belief in social justice but I find it hilariously simplistic to blame her for the breakdown of society any more than industrialisation, urbanisation or the raising of technological advancement as humanity's primary objective.

As for rubbing shoulders with dictators & totalitarian states. Name a leader who hasn't/doesn't? Just listing ones during her reign doesn't set her above others who ignored torture & genocide. In fact there's a longer list of British Prime Ministers who actively encouraged/authorised it within controlled territories. As with all countries leaders & history.

This isn't a defence of the woman just an attempt at placing her and the demonification of her in context.

I hold her in no more or less contempt than I have with any other individual who has the arrogance and fanatical zeal to believe they know better than me & actively try to obtain a position to force me to bend to their will.

I do actually and if you are talking about defence cuts then I agree but it was nothing like Afghanistan as we only had a short time to prepare in the Islas Malvinas.

Btw can everyone drop the accusations of milk snatching please.

    Nothing happened between us...

... and if it did it was consensual anyway and I didn't contract blue waffles from it.
