The "Brutal Contempt" for her opponents and the glee with which she pursued her policies is the reason why so many people are still very angry today. This is exacerbated by the fact that almost thirty years on we are seeing a repeat dose of extreme capitalism - but this dose will be ten times worse with the very infrastructure of our society being reduced to skelektal form.
While many are appalled by people celebrating someones death, there are greater issues at stake and it is likely that Thatchers funeral will be a target for anti-capitalist protestors. History has shown that extreme politics leads to extreme reactions.
The fact that the taxpayer will be funding the vast cost of the funeral (and it is likely to be a huge cost with the amount of security required) will wind people up even further. Personally, if her family want her to be buried in a dignified manner I feel they should call for a private ceremony.

So weird that someone who got voted in 3 times is hated so much, also first women to lead in a mans world. The tories done a lot of hard stuff under her reign but government is not run by 1 person, that persons policies have to keep her fellow party members happy or they are out. Why hate one person so much when if it wasnt them it would have been someone else. Actually why hate anyone at all, we live in times of voting and if not enough voted against her at the times maybe we should hunt down their families and throw eggs/flour etc. I have spent most of today arranging my grandparents ww2 medals who recently died, they were so proud of them medals [ and tbh there was a lot of them ] that my nan wanted to make sure they stayed together after she died. How can the prime minister who was forced to send all them persons to their death be a hero and another be classed as hitler.

sounds like the gerrymander joh bjelke (crook premier) peterson had here in queensland in the 70s, got fark all of the vote but the most seats. thankfully it has been rectified so all seats have a similar population
So basically then you hated thatcher for not backing an industry that wasn't making money, you wanted the state to throw money at businesses that are failures. The unions were the ones with the power, these unelected communist traitors who took money from the soviet union.
I for one am happy that maggie took on the unions and broke them, I think apart from the Cold War it was her greatest achievement, governments should be run by who the electorate votes in not by people with a deep seated hatred for the country like the union leaders back then.
She was voted in again after the miners strike, not by a whisker but by a huge majority, this shows that despite everything a majority wanted her in power. To say she was pure evil is ridiculous, to compare her with hitler or hussien is an insult for those who fought against them. She was elected in 3 times by the UK public, there was other choices but they were not chosen.
Now lets see if the pea eating grey suits in politics today can match the passion she had, I really doubt that they will do anything to benefit this country, they are just grey people with nothing to offer. Am I disenfranchised from politics today ? Yes I am these mamby pamby **** heads deserve nothing !

Yet she preceded to give the power to the bankers through her deregulation of them (lets remember that the halfwit Cameron also said in opposition that Gordon Brown was over regulating the banks) and we all know whats happened since. Because she gave the banks more power, they are the ones that control the Government these days, as they have threatened on numerous occassions to leave the UK if they do not agree with the banking reforms etc.
The reason why she is hated so much Jager, is because she made it a personal mission to destroy the lives of the working class society. Unless you were affected, directly or indirectly or know people who were affected then you will never understand the bitterness and hatred for that woman, and as a result, I for one won't be surprised if it all kicks off next Wednesday.
The unions stood up for the working class, that evil woman stood up for the rich and powerful, and the current idiot in charge, is trying to finish what she started by giving millionaires a tax cut, whilst going after the poorest in society.
Perhaps you can enlighten us as to her social policy. It is easy to shut down major industries, destroy communities and put millions on the dole - any pr!ck can do that.
But most mines were making money, she closed down many more than needed just to stifle the unions who initially asked that the profitable ones subsidise the loss making mines. Which is essentially what happens across nearly all government departments to this day. When she decided to close down virtually all mines, including the profitable majority, that is when the unions ramped up their efforts.

Have to agree with you there Dai, she was evil personified. She was the one who said that there was no such thing as society, and she went on to prove it by dismantling society piece by piece.
I can only speak of local personal experiences with regards to the closure of the pits. Duffryn Rhondda in the Afan Valley was closed due to "absenteeism", total rubbish. This pit had one of the best, if not the best anthracite deposits in the country and millions of tons of it. Most pits in this country were closed or "mothballed" due to the government being disingenious.
She fetched in that American guy to sort out the steelworks, at the time losing a shedful of money. He halved the losses in a couple of years, by sacking a load of the workers. Anyone can reduce losses by sacking the workforce, it does`nt take an Einstein to work that out.
She is going to be only the second ex-prime minister to have a "ceremonial" funeral procession. The first one was Winston Churchill, which I vaguely remember through the dim and distant mists of time. Churchill is still reviled in this part of the world for his part in the "Tonypandy riots", when he sent the troops in to quell the miners who only wanted a living wage.
I will say that she did do one good thing in her life, when she was a chemist, she helped to invent the "Mr. Whippy" ice cream. And that`s about it.
Why do politicians lie? Because they can! That is the best reason that I can come up with. I can't blame the politicians for lying. Politicians are doing what we allow them to do. After all, no one is going to reach the pinnacle of British political power without pushing the limits of success. They are pulling out every dirty trick imaginable in order to claw their way to the top. That includes lying, cheating, and stealing. These guys are not good people, they are dirty lying rats in pursuit of their political cheese. Now we are a divided people without a whole lot keeping us together. We need to transform ourselves morally if we ever expect to transform our leaders to a level of moral excellence. Oops! we`ve gone way past that, politicians would`nt know the truth if it smacked them in the face. Lying cheating dirty rotten scoundrels, with a few exceptions, they are all the same.

I was directly effected by the way as my family were employed in the mining industry or supplied the industry.
Breaking the communist unions stranglehold on anything British was the reason for breaking the unions, it had to be done, and as a labour voter I could see what was happening. I didn't like her or vote for her, but throwing millions at industry that couldn't support itself is stupid.
The UK is in a better position with her in power than it would have been if she wasn't. I voted for Neil Kinnock at the time, like most of my family, looking back at it he would have been a mitigating disaster of a PM if he got there, just another pawn for the unions. I sincerely hope the unions will never have the power they used to have.

Forget the average person - as long as the boys in the Bullingdon Club are looking after their 90% share of the countries wealth, the average person can live on the breadline.
Trade unions were formed for a specific purpose - to look aftre the affairs of the workers who were being abused by unscrupolous capitalists. While it appears you are quite happy to stick the boot into trade unions where power was abused, you seem unable to stick the boot into the capitalists who abused their powers in the 1970's, 1980's and until the present who, as the government of the day, have a duty of care to ALL of the population.
You keep coming back to the 'communist' Trade Unions - I've been in two Trade Unions in my lifetime - neither was controlled by, funded by or even had more than a very small minority of members that could conceivably be deemed 'communist' - indeed, suspect a good few were tories - all had one thing in common - recognition that as an individual they had no real voice in regard to their employment - but as a member of a body that would look out for them and protect their basic employment rights (after first consulting with them) they could at least have some influence on their future.
As to 'unelected' - to the best of my knowledge most unions elect their leaders - and probably get a larger percentage of eligible voters in that decision than politicians do in a general election (although, of course, the KGB ensure that the 'right' person is elected). The majority of individuals who actually voted in the general elections you refer to actually voted AGAINST Maggie, her party and her policies... but the voting system we have allows for that to happen.
Love or loathe, she was elected 3 times and on two occasions with massive majorities. That's the democracy our soldiers have fought and died for over the generations. You can bleat about the First Past The Post System as much as you like - that method is supported by most people (unfortunately). The current Government are also in power because of a democratic process. You may not like it but that's a fact. The Unions that held sway in this country in the 70's could literally topple governments, but they were never elected by the greater population. We just had to sit in the ****ing dark when the lights went out.
It's also interesting that a poll today has shown Thatcher the most popular Prime Minister of our times, beating Churchill into second. She may be unpopular with some but is hugely popular with the majority whether you like it or not.
But whatever you think - and I can respect and understand the hatred shown for her - some of the public rejoicing at an 87 year old's death has made me almost feel sick. By god people are really showing themselves up. We all hurt people in our lives, some intentionally, some otherwise. I defy anyone not to have enemies. The more power you have the bigger the list. I've had to not only hire people but fire them too, with little chance of them getting another job. As a reforming Prime Minister you're going to hurt as well as help a lot of people and your list of enemies will be huge. That's the nature of the job because you'll never please every part of society. Ask a dead soldier's mother what she thinks of Tony Blair.

It's fundamentally wrong that people on benefits are better off not working IMO
