Off Topic Texas Shooting.

I have no idea. It is not my job to control borders etc.
Making it a criminal offence will stop the vast majority of fruitcakes in random shootings which can only be a good thing.
You will always have hitmen etc but like Airlie has previously stated stopping the normal family man from opening fire can only be a good thing.

I can see this rumbling on so before it does I will just say lets beg to differ. We obviously see things differently.
Airlie has come up with good ideas which is better than just accepting these mindless killings.
If you can't control the borders and stop things getting in that are banned then people will still get hold of things. It was a criminal offence to make, import distribute and sell alcohol during prohibition but more of the stuff was drunk than at any time before or since. One Scottish distillers built a distillery on tbe Canadian border and made a fortune.
I don't think it will stop fruitcakes. It may stop the odd killing because someone was carrying a gun and used it, same as people who carry knives, because they got in an argument and used it?

Over twice as many people are killed by cars than guns in the USA. More lives would be saved by banning cars.

Twenty times as many die of heart disease, more lives would be saved by banning McDonalds.

Not all heart disease is caused by McDonalds. They have heart disease in countries which don't eat many McDonalds

They don't have McDonalds in Cuba. They have rationing of basic foodstuffs so no overeating like the USA. Few people with cars so not many road deaths. No guns so no mass shootings. Yet the life expectancy in the USA is slightly above Cuba. Maybe their health service is superior?

It wasn't a serious comment.

Though it seems when food was heavily rationed during the sanctions in Cuba in the 90's, there was a significant drop in weight across the population, which led to a 50% drop in diabetes and a 30% drop in heart disease.

Maybe they should just ban food.

In Cuba there's loads of old blokes who sit in town squares who seem to do nothing but drink rum and smoke cigars.

I've never been to Cuba, I fancied going at Christmas, but the missus is moaning about a ten hour flight for a one week holiday.
Did that for Xmas a few years ago,ok but the weather was a bit unreliable and some of the places we stayed had a distinctly Russian feel to them. Off to Morocco this year, similar latitude/temperature, shorter flights, half the price and no hurricanes.

I looked at Morocco, but the average temperatures there in December are significantly lower than Cuba, 14-21 against 18-27.

We went in 2004, had a fantastic time - Havana is a fantastic city, the people are ok, we ate some fantastic fish dishes and found the weather in February to be absolutely perfect. You need two weeks though <ok>

Long time ago now (15 years) but we also did Morocco the year after Cuba and I don't remember the temperatures seeming that different. We were in Marrakech so it may have been cooler but with less wind. Either way it was t-shirts during the day and jumper at night. It's Essaouira this time so that might be a bit breezier.

We concluded that if you want 'proper' sun at Xmas you have to go southern hemisphere and you certainly don't do that just for a week!

Jamaica and Barbados are brilliant at Christmas, problem is, they cost a fortune.

Antifa is an interesting one. It’s short for anti fascism. So, if you don’t like antifa, does that not by default make you a fascist?

No. Just like football hooligans, they're just a bunch of ****s who enjoy violence using anti facism as a vehicle for their sick enjoyment.

There's steps that can be taken so that number drops significantly over the next few decades, you'll never remove them all, just like there are plenty of illegal guns in our country despite strict laws, but there are simple ways to reduce gun ownership in the US.
My youngest lad married an American girl just over a year ago, he has currently gathered a collection of eight guns. His uncle-in-law has in excess of twenty and is one if the nicest people that I've ever met, but believe me when I say that no one will ever take his guns from him! They live in the midwest and both have a 'licence to carry', and neither of them would think twice about taking out a shooter if it meant saving lives.
