I think blaming Marshall for our recent form is completely ludicrous. I can barely remember a goal that was his fault, and I am pretty certain he didn't tell his defence and midfield just to give up on Saturday. Whether he should of been dropped or not is a different debate. If you believe Jakupovic shouldn't of been dropped surely you believe Marshall shouldn't be? Jakupovic did nothing wrong to be dropped but neither did Marshall, so why would you drop Marshall? The logic can't work both ways. On the team for Stoke. I don't think 3-5-2 suits Snodgrass and he is our best player and most important player. However, it looks like this is the only way to go based on the players we have. Marshall Elmo Dawson Maguire Davies Clucas Huddlestone Mason Livermore Hernandez Mbokani
Marshall was at fault for the first goal on Saturday. He let it go wide when it wasn't. Should have tipped it round the post instead of letting it rebound off it.
The only goal he's been at fault for was the first one against Bournemouth. We've played Liverpool away with 10 men, 2 of which were pens. Chelsea at home where they scored 2 class finishes in the top corner and then Bournemouth where we capitulated. It would have been no different if Jakupovic was in goal. And Jakupovic has proved he's never more than a few games from a glaring mistake. Marshall needs a good run in the side, give him the confidence he is our number one. It's what's going on in front of the goalkeepers that is more worrying
Do you not think we should maybe concentrate on not giving penalties away in the first place rather than playing a goalkeeper that's got a decent record of saving them if we do? We could quite conceivably not concede another penalty all season and then your playing your second choice every game just in case?
I don't agree Jak is second choice. Players play the game...they don't think "oh I better not give a penalty away". Hopefully they think "let's stop the bastards from scoring". I like a goalie who attempts to save the penalty that his team has conceded. Let us beg to differ on this one 4Tiger....you prefer Marshall and I prefer Jak
I think it's clear Marshall is first choice, not to say he'll deifintely stay that but at the moment he is. And I'm pretty sure players try not to give penalties away. If you prefer Jakupovic thats fair enough but I don't think he's shown enough, or more Marshall hasn't done bad enough, for him to come back in.
Snodgrass isnt a LWB or a RWB for that matter. He's our only threat near their goal. Snodgrass doesnt fit into a 3-5-2 FACT
Needs must sometimes. In the absence of a decent lb or rb 352 looks our best bet, and hr needs shoe horning in somewhere
Who was to blame? How did davies turn into a pumpkin overnight?? 1-0 Daniels unmarked - Snodgrass ballwatching 2-1 Cook header - Maguire didn't pick him up 3-1 Stanislas pen - Snodgrass rash challenge 4-1 Stanislas completely unmarked, where's the RB? Elmohamady 5-1 Wilson - Davies went AWOL 6-1 Gosling - Clucas not close enough Davies let Cook in for another header which Marshall saved at 3-1 too.. far too many free headers on saturday
