Councils do not create wealth - which is what has made this country a leading power for centuries.

So we're sucking the "talent" out of the Private Wealth making sector to employ them in the loss making Public sector?

Wait a go Team UK <ok>

IT personnel earn more in the public sector
Accounts personnel earn more in the public sector
HR personnel earn more in the public sector
Management personnel earn more in the public sector
They get more benefits in terms of Annual Leave, bank holidays, pension, flexitime etc etc etc

Every company I have worked for in the private sector (and that is quite a few) we don't get anywhere near those benefits
And that is not even considering the better job security in the public sector

The Government of the UK make **** all difference. A little bit of tinkering here and there. The seeds of the recession were planted long before Gordon Broon came to power. In fact, it's likely the seeds of the next recession are being sown now.

I'm all for improving the efficiency of the public sector. However, it's got to be targeted at the right people, not in a one-size-fit-fits-all Government policy where hard-working and honest public servants get hammered too.

Its a free labour market guys. If you dont like the pay, terms and conditions where you are currently, then you're free to shop around.

Rather than sit and bitch about it, do something.

    It's called capitalism <ok.

I suspect you must just be unlucky (or not good enough at your job to get a better one!)

You were talking about changing from the private to the public, doing exactly what you are doing now, but claim you couldn't get a job there because of competition. So surely you don't deserve the higher salary available there if you're not good enough for the job?

I am very good at my job. I just don't interview well. If jobs were based solely on knowledge based tests I would have loads of job offers

"That would mean the average salary going UP in the public sector. So you're happy to pay more taxes for that then?
IT personnel earn more in the public sector
Accounts personnel earn more in the public sector
HR personnel earn more in the public sector
Management personnel earn more in the public sector
They get more benefits in terms of Annual Leave, bank holidays, pension, flexitime etc etc etc"

Hmmmmm - we've had loads of people move from my public sector place to the private sector in those jobs because the pay is better.
