Just had a look at how he's doing, he says he's progressing well, it's looking good and he should be running by now but he won't be available for the start of the season. I'd love him to stay and get back into the team and stay fit, great little player. He thinks it was a freak incident that he got the same injury twice so hopefully he's right.
Stryek Love, beadling, storey, Hume MOlyneux, mcnair, Gooch, watmore Asoro, maja With honeyman, Embleton, Robson to mix it up. I doubt Kone will find a buyer, if he's still here he'd do a job in league 1. Steele as 2nd GK Will need to strengthen but that is the beginnings of a good squad imo. Midfield is sorted, but defence and forwards will need a couple of signings imo.
I like Stockdale but He didn't "give" us that on Sunday - A complete lack of pressure on the players gave us that coupled with a very good atmosphere in the stadium from before kick off and a below average Wolves. It wasn't down to Stockdale - just down to timing and luck. But I almost put a £5 on us beforethe match as we were going off at around 10/1 with some bookies!
He did "give" some of us the pleasure of seeing more of our young players than previously. You do him a disservice to put it down to pure coincidence, and we should have had much more involvement from our up and coming players well before the last game. You may not agree, but the crap that we have had to put up with from the so called senior professionals at the club has us where we are. I also put at the very top of that list one of your favourite players
I think we'll lose McNair unfortunately, way too good a standard for league one, would be a good signing for someone like west brom who can take the risk with his injuries(last prem payment). But, if we somehow keep him I think the McNair-Robson pairing will be ****ing bang on in league one imo. Best in the league.
Mate if you put youth into that crap it can destroy lesser players. Asoro is a very talented player. Easily mid to upper championship level. The rest aren’t. I include Maja in that. I’ll credit Stockdale with picking more youth but also give him a proverbial kicking for playing Fletcher, Ejaria, Oviedo as all 3 will definitely not be part of the club on the 5th August. Why credit him with some of it but not dig him for the rest? I like the youth and it was nice to see. Although I’ve watched Robson play 2 good games for us now with what I see as little different to Cattermole this season Sunday and Hull) so am not going to be calling for him to captain the club! I’m not disagreeing that the senior players have got us relegated. (Including 1 in 8 Cattermole) but I doubt that the youth would’ve stopped that from happening and, had Coleman thrown them in and we still ended bottom, that could well have ended some careers. It’s a tricky game. Easy for us in the stands to say “throw the kids in, they can’t do any worse” whilst that may be a fact, the senior players have a better mental capacity to deal with it. Cats used to be a very tidy, comfortably premier league player. Injuries have destroyed him. He’s just turned 30 ffs and he looked older than John O’Shea this season except for about 4 games
Strong talk that McNair has asked to stay, and he’d surely be the best player in the league. I really do rate the lad when he’s fit, he’s always doing something, he makes such a difference.
I would make him captain and build a team around him. Proved when fit what a cracking box to box midfielder he can be. Superb scoring record at end of season.
If anyone argues this point then I will hunt them down myself and shoot them!! McNair will be the best player in that division when fit - of that there can be little doubt. And if we can have Cattermole alongside him........... I'll get me coat!!
Before this recent comeback from injury where he was excellent I thought he looked lost and didn't contribute anything. He looks a valuable player now though, love a CM who gets goals.
We will never agree on Cattermole, he was finished at the higher level, when Wigan sold him, and a liability for us from day one, he was never the dirty player his record suggests, just a poor one, trying hard to disguise the fact. You are doing Robson a huge disservice with the comparison. We have at least six, if not more home grown players who I would love to see start next season in the first team squad, If they do I predict a very real revival in our clubs fortunes similar to our last visit to the third tier. Writing them all off apart from Asoro just beggars belief.
I couldn’t agree more, and if it transpires he is one who’s asked to stay times 10. He’s made a difference every game he’s played this season just a crying shame that hasn’t been often enough, could be a massive player in such a weak league.
I'll be surprised and delighted to see Paddy line up for us next season, showing that sort of commitment. It would give a lead to everyone at the club, and dispel a few rumours at the same time
That would be fantastic news about McNair if its true. And giving him the captaincy would be a great move. Still hoping for some good news on Watmore as well. Hoping the faith we've shown in him through his several injuries is repaid tenfold!
Cattermole was comfortably a premier league player - that's why we had PL offers for him - I was a fan - he's been useless this season except for one or 2 games Who did I write off? I merely said that Asoro is comfortably an upper championship level player and the rest aren't - that's not me writing them off that's me stating how I've seen it. Maja looked good for half a game when he got his goal but has looked no better than Fletcher ever since. I would also love to see them in the first team - but we're not in the championship we're in league 1 (3rd division) and I think they're probably all good enough for that level. I wrote nobody off. Saying Cattermole was finished at 21 when we signed him also beggars belief! Sort your facts out before making assumptions. Robson played very well against Hull and Wolves - he looked massively out of his depth in every other game (I'm not including Honeyman and Gooch in that list by the way,)
Far too good for League One. I don't think a Prem team would take a chance on him and I don't think most Championship would be prepared to take the financial risk with his injuries. That puts the 3 getting relegated from the Top flight or the two Glasgow clubs which I think are realistic clubs for him. Hopefully not one is interested. He's way too good for this league though. If he stays fit it will be abundantly clear by Christmas.
That’s my thoughts as well. We are bigger than most Championship clubs anyway, he may see it as a season to get back fully in the groove and step back up with is. I’m sure Celtic would be a big lure but do they need him? Would they look? Doubtful. Hopefully he does indeed stick around.
This is my hope with all the clubs I would say as suitable. There's aren't many thanks to his injury so hopefully, he's over the injury but the fear of not being fully over it scaring everybody off and he likes our ambition. He's keepable but think we all know deep down he's head and shoulders above the league. This will keep me worried until the window shuts, unfortunately. Flip side there'll be no Short trying to cash in on anything.
Just like Kevin Kyle and Lamine Kone, and more ? Cattermore never stepped up from the U21 level, just like many more. How many starts has Maja had, the fact that he has looked as good as Fletcher is my very point. Not facts or assumptions just opinions, and like I said we will never agree. This is going nowhere so I take my leave of the subject. Hopefully we will hear no more of him, and a lot more of the up and coming players that you are so dismissive and wrong about. Onwards and upwards
