I meant when they paid the bargain price of £8m for him after his career stalled. I thought that would be obvious.
Typical of me at the moment....underestimate everything.... not to mention missing a few noughts off.......
I tweeted saying that Dušan made Dejan look like the **** that he is - and who favourited the tweet? Good old David Salas.
Lallana really stepped up to the mark last season but that was after we were looking at replacements for him. Banega, Coutinio and Gaston before him, so we were unconvinced about him performing in the PL let alone at top 4 level. How much was his improvement down to Poch and can he sustain it with the added pressure of a large transfer fee? To me there are still a lot of questions around his quality at the top level, if he is the player we thought he was six months ago then he should be able to make the step up but if he plays lime he did in the first season and confidence takes a hit then he could well be an absolute flop. Tadic looked really good and time will tell if he works out to be better.
This will be a massive season for Adam...third season in the PL and at an age considered to be the prime for an outfield player. Can he do it when not surrounded by a team he is fully familiar with.
Lallana has "possibly" the best first touch and control of any English player. Other bits of his game may have room for improvement, but he has immense control of the ball. *hated saying that*
Very true. Several of us were quite fairly asking questions after his first season. Shut us all up last year but he's certainly not a sure bet for success.
I've never liked Lallana much compared to most other people, so take this with a grain of salt but I think he's going to be exposed badly at Liverpool. Lallana only creates off the dribble. I don't think his vision is that great or his passing. His game is that it's extremely difficult to dispossess him and if you send someone after him to do that, he will beat that defender and create a numerical advantage. However, if you sit back instead of coming out to challenge, then Lallana can be somewhat contained. My enduring image of him will always be him making a twisting, turning run, only to be walled off at the box, yet somehow keeping possession he is able to bring it back out and then play a simple pass. A lot of fancy dribbling that kind of came to nothing. If you prioritize possession like MP did, then Lallana is very effective because he's extremely difficult to dispossess. But if you want a player who can prise open defenses with amazing through balls or quickly feed the ball to strikers on timed runs, he's not so good. I don't think Lallana could have made that backheel pass that Tadic did.
If you want, but I think I've hedged my bets pretty well. I think he will be a success with how good he was last year (and I've said as much in the past), but there's no guarantee of it.
Brendon Rogers obviously rated Lallana..so he see's something in the lad that others are missing. Time will tell obviously....... Just as RK has seen something in Tadic
well there's obviously something in tadic. the guy doesn't have obvious gaps in his repertoire except maybe pace and defending if i remember reports correctly. edit: oh and lacking two years of premier league experience. whether he's as good at ball retention as lallana remains to be seen. it's a tall order.
Lallana's greatest attribute is his "receiving" as one of our old youth coaches so aptly put it. Never seen anyone take the ball in they stride as easily as Lallana. But really liked what I saw from Tadic...looked ambitious and enterprising.
Came to the UK as a Spanish student and is a photographer first and full most. Has been doing translation work since working with Poch too. Has translated for Mourinho/Simeone and went off to the World Cup, too. (Yes, another one who went off to the World Cup and never came back)
