Whilst I agree that he does seem particularly susceptible to injury, and whilst I also harbour some resentment towards him, I have to concede that Lallana is a prodigously talented player. The Saints fan in me would quite like to see him fail, but the football fan in me thinks he'll succeed on the big stage. And let's be fair to the guy, he left us a lot of good memories. Life's to short to hate.
lallana is simply the best player england has to offer at retaining possession. he was also a tireless worker in winnign the ball back. many other qualities were average or poor in him though and i didn't see him as a top four player.
Nonsense, people are only saying this stuff as he has left us. It's pure bitterness, he was our best player by a country mile last season and is easily good enough for a champions league squad. Maybe not a starting place, but definitely squad.
I simply don't see players who are so bad at shooting as top four material. I find it hard to believe so many become footballers at all.
Doesn't need to be that good at shooting when he can singlehandedly run rings around a defence and pass into the back of the net a la vs Hull. Also his goal vs Newcastle this year shows he can shoot! Top 4 player IMO.
which is great if you're playing hull. a goal shows he can shoot against the evidence of how many years of rolling the ball tamely at the goalie's feet or scuffing it wide? as has been said, he's a fringe or squad player at a top four club. I never expected a top four club to shell out 25m for him. outrageous talent at what he can do, mostly terrible at several disciplines I consider mandatory for a top four player.
on that note, i hope Tadic isn't going to need taking off 20 minutes before the end every week. it was like dejavu.
I think the PL can be a shock to a player from the Eredivisie, especially against a top four team. He would also be trying his best...no wonder he ran out of steam. Anyway better to have a great player for 70 minutes than an average one for 90...after all, we have back ups.
Koeman said something to that effect. Having a great player for 70 is all well and good as long as you can cope with taking them off. Too many times we end up under the cosh for the remainder of the game or at least have trouble keeping possession and see too many counter attacks.
Just because he is in a top team now doesn't mean he won't be playing 20 matches a season vs teams as good as or worse than Hull. Yes he will also experience a lot better, but better players play better in better teams, if it wasn't for the price no-one would argue against him playing for a top team, its just the English premium, I hope this doesn't affect him either. I wonder if anyone will be able to stop his Cruyff turns? We all knew they were coming and yet no defenders did!
well there's one team that was worse than hull still in this division from last season and he had as many games last season to do it in as he will this season or potentially six fewer (depending on how quickly he gets to play). hallelujah, the if it wasn't for the price brigade. i'd still argue against him playing for a top side for the reasons i mentioned. the price isn't why he shouldn't be playing for them. that's the sort of price they should be paying for first team players unless they are taking a punt on kids like Coutinho.
I was stating the price as I hope it doesn't affect him. I believe he is a top 4 player and with better players he can improve his weak aspects.
he had the best striker of the ball at the club since le tissier for 5 years and yes he put one or two decent shots in last year but that's it the rest was typical of him.
Lallana's good enough to play for Liverpool. He's also good enough to be a regular starter for England. So he has his limitations, what player doesn't? We've seen him improve for several seasons, and I don't see any reason why that improvement shouldn't continue. I'm obviously hoping that Tadic will be even better than Lallana. Then everyone's a winner.
Oh dear, Beddy. It's not even petty cash. £50,000 may well have been fine for the 1960's, but... I assume you meant £50,000,000 or as we write it in the forum, £50M. Yes..?
Take a punt on Coutinho? I'm pretty sure his performances last season mean they won't be taking a punt with him. I do though agree that Lallana has a few limitations.
