Yer just seen it. Lee Probert was the ref. He was the ref for us against Brighton, therefore reviewed the Cabaye challenge and decided it was worthy of a red. Amazing how that challenge tonight will get Assou-Ekotto no punishment yet Cabaye could be looking at 4 matches for something much less serious.

Who are these fools talking transfers on MOTD? Cisse's 'electrifying pace'? 'Saha's a class player?' Have they time-travelled back to 2007?

Hahaha true!

Keown thinks everything is still the same as when he stopped bloody playing...

By the way, sorry to say it, but I genuinely thought Cabaye's little dig was nasty and intentional, and a sign of the impetious behaviour that has been under the spotlight recently... I think a 4 game ban will serve him well for us in the future if he learns his lesson.

If he's going to 'learn his lesson' from the ban, I think he'd still learn it even if the decision's overturned.

"There was an unsavoury note as Benoit Assou-Ekotto felled Di Santo with a wild challenge,
the Tottenham full-back hugely fortunate to escape even a yellow card when his studs
caught the striker high on the shin and forced him out of the match."

this tackle forced the player off the pitch <yikes> and nothing is done

If he hasn't been carded for it, then it's open to review by the FA. Phil (The Concorde) Thompson had a rant about it on SSN last night, so might well get picked up.

the tackle was a leg breaker,
you could see his leg bend in the tackle, in slow mo
but then again everything can look a lot worse when slowed down

taken from Sky report

"Worst tackle of the match: Benoit Assou-Ekotto went over the top of the ball and straight onto Franco Di Santo's ankle which could have easily snapped. The defender was lucky to stay on the pitch!"

"Di Santo hobbled off after being clattered by Assou-Ekotto and was replaced by Conor Sammon."

Does anyone know why it was on last night when there are FIVE games tonight? Is this just more evidence of Sky's monopoly over the PL TV coverage or just an awful oversight on the part of the Beeb?

Massive cock up by the BBC. It's not like Sky had five games moved for TV. Can't believe they've not got MotD on tonight. <doh>

Only saw one clip of Assou Ekotto's tackle but it wasn't a red. Should've been booked but never a red.

I agree. Clumsy but I don't think it was malicious or had the required intent to be red. Everyone is just so focused on the topic right now that we'll send off our own grandmothers for eating all the digestives before we arrive, nevermind a bit of a strong tackle or mistimed tackle.

For me, it was yellow-worthy, no more.

I imagine it's because City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool were all playing. They probably wouldn't get half the viewers with tonight's games, especially on a week night.

It would be nice if they could do a full programme tonight which included yesterdays games, but I doubt enough people would bother staying up to watch most of them.
