Quite frankly, when the post Dev was trashing claimed that everything in it was "fact" I think he was probably right to react in the way he did. It's a great mechanism - just say "fact" without prviding any evidence <doh>

He neither said Russia were angels or Assad is not a Tyrant

It's a pretty good explanation of what is going on, trashed because Dev only sees in black and Dev

<laugh>

Do you actually know anything about Scots culture? You do realise Scots culture has heavily borrowed from the Irish, the Danes, the English, the French and myriad other cultures. Even bagpipes were borrowed from other cultures, yet they are now seen as intrinsically Scots. That's how a country, any country gains culture and tradition, by taking what they like and adapting it to suit, just like the Yanks have done.

I never actually said the Americans have no culture. I just said none of their culture is original and the closest thing they have is consumerist culture, which is exactly what Burger King and baseball is. Archer mentioned movies as well. Again, Hollywood is an example of consumerist culture. I'm not criticising the US, just saying as a relatively young country their culture isn't as mature or interesting (to me, at least) as Russia's. Russia's culture goes back over a thousand years and Russia, Ukraine and Belarus can lay claim to the Rus' people as their cultural, linguistic and genetic ancestors. I'd rather live in Russia because as a History student I'd find the place more interesting. The English have the Romano-Britons, Anglo-Saxons, Danes, Norwegians and Normans as their cultural and linguistic ancestors; the Scots have the Picts, the Gaels, the Norwegians and the Normans as well; Irish have the Gaels and Anglo-Normans/Cymbro-Normans and the Welsh have the ancient Britons and Anglo-Normans.
