Say what ya like about speakman but he’s confident enough to go his own way against the wishes of some of the louder fans, it might not always pay off but i’d rather someone fail and follow their own philosophy than pander to others.

If those fans had their way we'd have a terrible squad of well known mercenaries coming here just for the money ...

... precisely what we've had too many times before.

Aouchiche is clearly here to use the club as a stepping stone to the PL ...

... hopefully with us but it's a win win situation, he's a £5m player already imo.

Speakman took big flak for allowing Ross Stewart to go but it's now been revealed he probably won't play until November ... just when pitches get heavier and teams are already in their stride. Even then he may be half the player he was. I'd say it was great business by the club.

That makes the deal with Southampton look even better now

Exactly.

I was looking at the Wrexham team yesterday thinking ya know what, that was us. They’ve bought players like McLean, fletcher etc who are right at the end of their careers and hoping for the best.

You have to wonder how the hell we pulled that deal off. Unbelievable business for us to get so much money for a player that might not be fully fit till December time.

And how on earth did they do the medical.

Imagine if Speakman signed a player with limited Championship experience, a history of injuries, still injured now and likely to miss at least another month ...

... he's a lanky lad with a lot of 'leverage' on his legs,, another injury isn't difficult to imagine.

I remember the moans when he arrived here injured <laugh>

This is pretty random but stumbled on this

https://sportcover.co/

These are the agents of Adouchiche, Pembele and Ba.

They are also the agents of Farioli (the manager we were randomly linked to) and Begraoui (the big French striker we were linked to at start of window).

Might all be coincidences but it feels like we might have a good relationship with this group who see us as a good place to send their young players to develop and you’d assume increase their market value.

So it might be worth making a note of some of the other players on their list…

scroll down on the page to see all the players (and managers) they represent. And if you click on each one it takes you to their transfermarkt page. They seem to specialise in young French talents

Interesting indeed. I think the ones we have now will all become very good players, some exceptional. How fab would it be if it was with us.

Worth also noting he 'might' be fully fit a month before foreign clubs could sign him on a free.... absolutely outstanding business

There is a awful lot of work to do in the background, no doubt a lot more still reference player & recruitment as I doubt we are setup to stand still.....but i cannot believe how quickly since KLD walked through the door how swift we have moved to completely radical change our model, it is beyond belief...also taking into account to he damage inflicted by SD & CM

Like employing a brick layer but doing a trade test while he had a broken arm:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Same injury as Adriano which eventually ended his career (granted he had other issues), says in the article his pace and balance were gone and still walks with a limp. That's after surgery and rehab.

Makes you wonder if Stewart could end up the same.

I hope not but his game relies on turning quickly, short bursts of speed and constant movement ...

... Southampton have taken a huge risk imo.

They have Adams, who's a bit of a hero, so if Stewart replaces him, and fails to score in five or six games, his confidence would take aa big knock.

I'm happy with what we have so will wish him well.

I wish Stewart well also, he gave his all while here, scored some very important goals for the club

He arrived injured, has had a few while here over a short period of time, not sure during his time here was he injured more than he was fit & available?

From him as a personal side, a lot of players already have life changing money that sets them up forever, yet still chase more, we have seen a lot of this regrading even willing to give up morals to do so. Ross Stewart has not made life changing money either before or while with us, he must have concerns regarding his fitness & if he can get back to standards he set, we rightly were not going to offer him more than what we thought he was worth.... personally i think hes probably lower end PL striker at best, possibly mid table as he doesn't appear to me to finish well enough to be higher

Southampton have came along & offered him a 4 year deal on money if hes not stupid....i doubt he is due to not having been thrown money before & way he comes across as a person. Plus he gets share of the fee. The lad is set now & regardless of if he recovers fully or not he is sorted & im pleased for him

Regarding the above paragraph.....is that a good position from the clubs side? We have seen many players come here who are set....it didnt go well (in the main).....we want hungry players & a reason for those players to be hungry, so Ross became almost the wrong fit at that point along with the model saying it was time for him to move on re possiblly hit his peak & no further development left

We move boldly on into potentially one of the most exciting season we will ever have watching the lads.....i cannot wait for every game to come round!!!

Yeah I hope not, got no ill will towards him and don't wish a career ending Injury on him but shows how well the club did to get the deal we did when that is the possibility

Club did fantastic work seeing that deal over the line, especially when it was reported as being on and off very hour fo the last day of the window! Rumours at the time were Sounthampton thought if they tried to change the offer last minute the club would panic!

Madness we got so much for a player that would have been 6-8 months away from signing on a free by the time he starts a match.

We signed him with an injury and had the luxury of him not needing to be first choice that season as we had Wyke scoring plenty. Southampton may be in a similar position.

Stewart was immense for his work rate and getting in scoring positions. His finishing wasn't the best. If he can't fully recover from the injury I'm not sure he is the type who can adapt his game!

Reading this thread got me thinking about this Smug, if Southampton’s poor run continues until Stewart comes back into the side, can you imagine the pressure on him to turn them around. He will feel it, the fans will expect it and his period of grace might not last too long before the natives get restless.

Not a good place to be if you are easing yourself in after a long injury.

He also might have to convince a new manager if their bad run continues for another couple of weeks.
