Solid experienced and very very defensive midfielder
Seems to fit the bill but I fear he would end up on the treatment table more than the pitch.
Saying that don't suppose the club would sign him if they didn't think he was fit.

We have enough problems with injuries as it is. We certainly don't need someone we're going to have to nurse.

I don't think he would need nursing if he is being used when needed instead of each game. Should be fine. It's when it's Saturday Wednesday Saturday and he is asked to play all 3 , is when he seems to have the bother. Won't the the case here.

Was talking to a lad last night who’s involved somewhere along the line with WMS and to be honest I like the kid BUT he seemed genuinely upset at the fact we might be signing a striker and his opening gambit was to mention about Stansfield

With Stansfield it looks like we were in for him, but as soon as an option to stay closer to home came up, he chose that ahead of us. Whether he turned us down to go to Birmingham or we pulled out because it became clear he didn't really want to come here, it'll come out in the end. But the thing is we can't force players to sign and having been stung in the past with players who were here under sufferance, it's better to let them go than sign them and then have them be disruptive or not committed and try and land the ones who go want to be here. But some of our fans just seem to want to ignore that and use it to beat the club with.

It’s unbelievable what comes out of some folks mouths I’m incredulous at times,I think as a club we’ve learned lessons of the past onwards and upwards

So no signings today, assume we are stuck with the same team as last week with a Roberts replacement.

I have to say I find this all a little offensive ...

... Mowbray is blithely contradicting decent Sunderland supporters who know the truth.

The club were quite happy to sell off Stewart along with Batth, Pritchard, Neil, Clarke, Roberts, Patterson, etc, without bringing in replacements, in the pursuit of profit over ambition. Thankfully people aren't fooled by this attempted cover up from Mowbray who's furious with Speakman but being coerced into repeating the rhetoric ... shame on him for taking the company dollar and calling a French speaking player French, the club is a laughing stock.

It's naive of the club to believe they can fool people when the facts are so readily available from people on the internet

And don't get me started on us refusing to persuade Stansfield to move the length of the country, for one season, to sit on the bench when Stewart's fit :steam:

And there we go...the best form of humour....which will slide of the head of some that your being serious!
