So what are you suggesting we do with Ba.

I genuinely have no idea, which is why I’m saying we don’t need to sign more players like Ba and end up in this situation with numerous “wonderkids” sat on the bench not being able to get the game time they need to improve.

Imo we need a few players who have a decent amount of seasons at this level or higher under their belt and improve our starting Xl or if they don’t go straight in they at least have that experience to be able to make a difference when they come on but we aren’t hindering their progress by leaving them out.

I’m sure there will be plenty of opportunities over the season, what’s the craic regarding Roberts ? If he’s out for 2 or 3 that’ll open up opportunities

I think that it’s a gamble signing younger players who may or may not develop so you have to sign more and expect some not to make it and loan out and develop elsewhere as you see fit without losing much. Too many senior pros I would say restricts development not the younger ones

If he’s out I wouldn’t be against jewi starting wide with hemir up top, jewi loves to beat his man and whip a ball in

I suppose us buying a striker would be like me buying a pair of Adidas Gazelle. I shop around, not sure what colour I want but not being able to find the perfect colour I'm after. I hang around for a few weeks, popping into shops whilst on my travels, nothings changed, so I end up paying £85 and settling for a pair that I am not wholly convinced about. Low and behold, merely a few weeks after my purchase I stumble across a pair that totally blows mine out of the water, but its too late. I'm stuck with a pair and its bi-annual life span. And by the time they are worn out, the holy grail of trainers are nowhere to be seen and I start again on this vicious circle.

Do Sunderland bide their time or end up doing what I keep doing?

Depends- do you/the club have another serviceable pair in case you get a hole in the sole? At the moment we’re teetering on going barefoot but have a couple of options that could polish up nicely but need work and patience.

Couldn't agree more.

So you're saying we have too many young players with potential who aren't getting game time and as such it's hindering their development yet you want us to sign more experienced players that can make a difference.

Forgive me for thinking that this would only hamper the development of our players with potential as their game time opportunities would be diminished?

Sunderland should by a pair of New Balance, a far better quality of trainer for the discerning club. A stylish pair of 574s will be the perfect all round number 9.

I think we are a ready to play striker short largely. Someone comfortable with the deep midfield role yes but they could be an emerging player with first team experience for me because we have an experienced head back in in November and Matete around the same time so we’d be overloaded. Adding too many more means we have young players not playing as you said. Unless we loan a couple out.

Whilst I take your point, would these experienced players not then push potential wonder kids like Hemir, Jobe and Rigg down to the bench?

I wouldn't be surprised is Jewi and Ba are loaned out, depending who we bring in

People love saying this as if we can go out and just magically find an unlimited amount of seasoned players who are first team quality but also cheap enough to buy.

I meant budget wise, we shouldn’t be signing more youngsters in the same positions we already have young lads breaking through when we need experience in other parts of the pitch. Use the budget on improving those areas not signing more young lads to sit on the bench. I think a mix of both is important.

CB position for arguments sake. Club knew they didn’t want to offer Bathh an extension so he wants to leave. So we’ve signed Seelt and Triantis who are both young lads to add to Alese who is also naturally a CB although can play LB. So now unless he drops O’nien we have 3 young CB’s on the bench when they’re fit when we’re crying out for 1 decent experienced CB really to play alongside Ballard unless we go to a 3 at the back which would then create a problem in midfield because you’d have to bench someone like Bellingham and can’t play Dack.

Having some experience and guidance for the younger players not just on the pitch but in training will go a long way. When I look at the first Xl we’ve fielded so far this season I don’t really see any leadership that’s why Dack coming on and giving simple instructions looked out of place and so many people picked up on it because there’s nobody else on the pitch doing it.

Sheff Utd have agreed a fee with Villa for Archer. I wonder if that might free up Jebbison for a loan...

Apparently the fee is £18-19m as well. Its another indication of how much Stewart's injury has ****ed us and people can talk about poor planning all they want, but the club had expected to either be bringing in £15m+ for Stewart, or still having Stewart. Rather than neither.

Think that's a good option and probably the sort of timescales we are looking at
Everton close to signing Adams, that might free up Cannon
Sheff Utd sign Archer, frees up Jebbison
Fulham need a replacement for Mitrovic before releasing Stansfield?
