Agreed. Gooch has regularly made a difference in games. We would not have got promoted without him after a hasty bid to sell him that January.

He isn't perfect, but nor are we. He made a difference often last season too. We are a stretch away from thinking we don't need lads like Gooch IMO.

And even when it was at its worst here, in the dog days of the chancers, unlike many wage collectors who were here, he always put it in. Hope he stays mesell, but if he goes , it's thanks snd all the best from me

Aye 100%. Not sure we should be letting him go and telling him there is no contract on offer. He has incredible experience for someone who is 27. And last year he has some topper games.

If we could merge Hume and Gooch they'd be the perfect modern day fullback. I love Gooch but can understand where the club is coming from. He is good coming forward from fullback but he gets caught out defensively. I'd love for him to stay this season as he does give us a fair bit of flexibility with where he can play.

Feels as though Batth, Pritchard and Gooch are players the club want to leave so as to free up wages. Not really in the "model" so to speak, but fair enough if they aren't going to be playing every week.
The real resolve will be tested if Clarke goes and we don't replace him - hopefully KS isn't daft enough to accept a Burnley bid at 11pm on transfer deadline day then tell us all we couldn't get a deal over the line to replace him, before extolling the virtues of Ellis Taylor and telling us all how we aren't aligned to a traditional winger etc etc

If we have to sell, ****ing make sure we buy first

I don't necessarily think any of the "contract 3" will (or need to) be replaced.

Squad as it stands:

GK: Patterson, Bishop
RB: Hume, Huggins
CB: Ballard, Triantis
CB: O'Nien, Seelt, Batth
LB: Cirkin, Alese
CM: Evans, Ekwah
CM: Neil, Matete
RW: Roberts, Bennette, Gooch
CAM: Jobe, Pritchard, Dack, Rigg, Embleton
LW: Clarke, Ba
CF: Hemir, Stewart

Obvious shortages up front, but plenty of cover in the positions these 3 largely occupy although injuries will always play a factor and having someone like Gooch around who can cover 4 or 5 positions isn't a bad thing at all.....

I think we need to make it absolutely clear there'll be no last minute ****ery tolerated from buyers. Get your bid in the day before or be prepared to be told to piss off.

I’d broadly agree but I don’t think we can expect Huggins to provide regular cover, if he does it’s a bonus, spare fullback cover as it were. I would 100% keep Gooch as RB cover.
I’m less certain about keeping Batth, not because I don’t rate him as he was brilliant last season but I think he probably does want to be closer to family. Personally I’d keep five CB’s if possible but with Hume and Alese able to play there it’s less critical.
Love Pritchard but Can see him going.

In terms of releasing players it should be Batth, Pritch then Gooch, based on coverage we already have in place. I’d be very wary of releasing Gooch, as that would leave a hole unless we have a Right/wing back primed to sign.
I'd have thought we'd want another one in, if we let him leave.

Personally I’d keep Gooch ahead of even Baath and Pritch. A good club man is important for conduct and respect. Bally was that to us. He needs enough games obviously but he is adaptive enough to get them over a season.

He’s all action Davis except for in the box. Heskey-esque. Arguably Altidore-esque. Great attitude and work rate, minimal final product. Couldn’t be our 1 up top
Young enough for that to change, hasn’t quite established himself yet. Hull have been ambitious but I get the feeling there might be one or two too many that are just there for the wage. Time will tell.

Agree. I would keep him as he has so much versatility and his heart is here. Doesnt need to be scrapping it out at QPR. That said he is at the age in theory he is at his prime and maybe wants to play each week and be a key man. Hope he stays, but will always have a place in my heart if he moves. The one lad that stayed with us through all the crap of the last few years and was always there for the team and the club.
