Would that be Brighton who owe their owner Tony bloom over £400 million? Who freely admit they would be knackered and no where near where they are now I'd he hadn't put up serious money?

That Brighton?
Seriously? There are far nicer ways of telling me I was mistaken in using them as an example (as I don’t know the details you mention)

Obviously the person I was commenting to didn’t know this either! Brighton are also owed lots from other clubs.

The point I was making, was that the club are trying to a self sufficient way. No need to have a go because I made a simple mistake

While I don't want the club to overspend. Sometimes a business has to speculate to accumulate, this is our current position, spend a few Million Pounds on a good quality forward and the whole Club will be worth more money for KLD, as we could well end up in the Premier League with what that entails. We're not that far off from recovering from the Short era if we can achieve promotion.

My views on the sustainable model, are clear, yes it should mean the club is in a sound financial position. But we are unlikely to win much, with the big, 6 or 7 splashing millions about and having a couple of experienced internationals for each position.

However, before we can be in a position to implement such a model, we need a 1st team and a squad that can hold its own, as it were. ATM we are not dealing with a full deck.

Imho, we still need a proper spine, I rate our Keeper. I have doubts about CB, DM and of course striker. There are wheels missing on our trolley

Agree. To get promoted we need a bit a of luck where the right players come together soon enough before we have to start selling anyone.

That was hardly having a go.

Apologies if it offended you

Only a couple of years ago, our 'trolly' was without wheels and balancing on broken bricks, we may not have all we need but at least we are rolling forward today.

For me building well and sensibly and somewhat under the radar is fine. Would I love to buy some players for 20 or 30 million and smash the league of course I would but then next year you will need players worth 100-150 million and it becomes spend again to stay in prem, or do we continue with the path we are on and develop some players to a good degree so they can be the spine of the club for the next 3 or 4 years and give us a real chance to compete further up the pyramid.
KLD and his family have a serious amount of wealth and by the looks of how we are operating he is looking to place foundations for this club which may well last long after his tenure is finished. Put the foundations in, invest in the infrastructure, build the team, build the brand, diversify and look to make a sports dynasty. By looking to purchase clubs in the USA and South America it could give us reach and the chance to tap into developing talents and markets.
As mentioned by hefty earlier a few years ago KLD mam sold 40% of her business to a wealth fund (he seemed to think of it as a negative but I see it more positively). Ok they don't own us but it does give KLD access to some very influential people, put that together with the Blackrock links and looking further forward than "we need a striker" comments I think we as fans should be taking more notice of the future prospects and where we may be in 4 or 5 years time. Now is not the time for panic it is a time to be measured and thoughtful and to trust that the club is being managed properly both on and off the pitch with the correct resources put in place at the right time. Will their be some hiccups on the way undoubtedly (ticketing and shop fiasco) but if the majority of things are right and good decisions are made we may well be celebrating more than we could have dreamed of 2 or 3 years ago we just need to give it a chance.

Excellent post. Have a like! (So good, I posted twice) <laugh>

it did feel like a dig. Apologies if I’ve taken it the wrong way
It's my fault, Brighton get held up elsewhere as the pinnacle of sustainability and when you dig into it a little it's no where near what we should be doing, so I get frustrated.

Brentford on the other hand, much closer aligned to our way, still not exact but a lot closer and they only owe their owner £100 million :emoticon-0102-bigsm
