A new club joins Bruges from Belgium and AZ Alkmaar from the Netherlands for the services of Alexander Aravena, it is Sunderland from the English Championship, who has already set his sights on the striker of #LosCruzados
Via @Cooperativa

The leadership does not welcome his departure at this time, unless the offer is impossible to refuse due to a large amount of money.

UC they have not received a formal offer from the team that is currently playing in the English Championship, but there have been conversations between the player's representation group and the club about the importance of this possibility.

With this panorama, Aravena will have to wait to see if there is a concrete proposal to be able to have his first international experience or he will remain at Universidad Católica for the rest of the season. https://tinyurl.com/25545njd

This might be happening...

But they are all quoting the source from radio ADN

The ADN spanish report doesn’t say much. They say that there is interest from Sunderland but also other three clubs… so it seems like nothing new. Hope I’m wrong!

Alexander Aravena es sondeado de cerca por el Sunderland
Según información de ADN Deportes, el atacante de la UC aparece entre las opciones para reforzar al elenco inglés de cara al inicio de la temporada en Europa.

His Wiki says he plays for Sunderland!

No offence to the new players, but this is my favourite signing of the entire window!!!

Although it can’t be true, all those ****ty sites and alan Nixon said he wanted to go or he was in the cusp of a move to West Ham
My grandad said the same, his favourite player. Wasn’t expecting it myself with how long his deal had left. All of these extensions are for 3 years plus, players must be confident and/or getting assured that we’re going to be pushing for premier league football. Really exciting

That last paragraph means we won't get him, imo. SAFC have shown they'll spend if they believe there is value to be had, but this sounds like his current club will only let him go if someone overpays, which we don't do nowadays. On to the next one!

Aye, we definitely don’t over pay nowadays. Part of the the negotiation strategy hopefully.

Tend to agree with your point, with slim hope that Lihadji's departure might generate the $$ needed to invest in a striker.

Seems a strange decision to buy Seelt for £2 million when we arguably don't need a CB, if we don't have £3-4 mil for the right striker. If Aravena costs any more than that, I can't see us getting him this window at least.

If Batth goes then we definitely needed an extra body there.

Depends what they class as value. FWIW my gut feeling is he isn’t one of them now but may be if Clarke goes

He is a really good lad isnt he.

What I like about our recruitment policy, along with the fact we buy damn good players, is we pay attention to character. If you look at the players we buy they have all been brought up well, are humble and hungry, and have great determination and work ethic. Even the older lads like Baath and Pritchard have been really excellent characters, who have arguably played higher levels, but led by example not by reputation. I listen to all our players talk and they have a lot of football intelligence, they are respectful of the fans and the city, and they first and foremost seem pleased to be here.

We all know the data approach we have. It is brilliant. Some pundit doing a championship preview on the radio yesterday said nobody is matching our recruitment in this division currently. What we clearly do is research the person as well as the stats. I only see good people joining our club, and when you are part of a team you only want good people with the right character alongside you. We have that spot on it seems to me.

Yep. Definitely true that, the whole guy rather than just a skills clip.

I'm ancient enough to have been pleased as a youngun when we signed anyone who had made it into the middle of a newspaper column in a second division match report, and who had maybe once featured on Match of The Day.

Then you'd turn up and see some puffing billy with an emerging beer belly trying to run about!

The horror is we more or less went right back to that just a few years ago. Funny how it didn't work.
