69 points is not going to get you playoffs this year. So difficult to judge our progress in league position. 1.5 points per game was a good target and result for last season

Hopefully we could up that to 1.6/1.7 if our home form improves. I reckon we’ll struggle to match our away form as we’re more of a known quantity
I wouldnt be surprised if a team gets into the playoffs with 69 points this season. Its so competitive that there will be loads of teams only seperated by a few points so wouldnt surprise me if a team gets in with 69 points. I reckon therell be around 16 teams that will fancy getting into the playoffs

I cant wait for it to start this weekend, love the championship

I mentioned the other day how a section of our fans lurch from one emotion to another in a heart beat depending on scorelines. Supporting Sunderland is not easy at the best of times, Our fortunes are up and down faster than a brides nightie....but a section of our fan base seem to enjoy this cheer then moan cycle...I simply do not understand this...yes, nothing wrong in raising concerns, we have all done it, But the same few seem to wait until a scoreline go against the team to start the negativity. It wouldn't be so amusing but this time its a preseason friendly FFS.
You also said “support the team FFS”, just because some people moan and groan on a forum, which to be fair if we all agreed would be a pretty **** messageboard, it doesn’t mean that they don’t support the team when it matters. I can moan and gripe about performances all I want on here, it sometimes is a good way to vent, but when the time comes, I’m there hoping and cheering for the best. We had a pretty **** home record last season and I can honestly say I never booed them off once. I’m not saying I haven’t in the past mind, but those ****ers who capitulated at the thought of playing in the championship, thoroughly deserved it.

Correct, there has to be year on year improvement, which with our younger lads should be the case

Agree mate, our away form got us into the playoffs.... positive is surely our home form cant be any worse, which in my mind was heavily effected by RS injury & no replacement, i get the nervousness around not having enough strikers, im sure club , inc KS will be aware & looks like being addressed ref TMs comments.

Adding to my last post, we currently have 3 strikers, plus Dack & Jewi who are not ideal but can play there....we didnt have that last season, we brought in Gelhart, Jewi was year younger then injured

Thats why i think cannon would be good, hes played in the league before so knows what its like

Theres no obvious striker that has loads of championship experience thats worth signing imo

Agree, imo he's the best prospect we've been linked with. :emoticon-0102-bigsm Would calm some nerves if we could get him.

He hasn't suddenly decided it mate...he's been critical of the management on and off for some time. He's only ever optimistic in small doses before reverting to his scepticism. Why,I've no idea. Some of the criticism is justified....our off field operations have been very poor under Davison, which now seems to be addressed, but our player management has,on the whole, been excellent, and I think most fans agree that our prospects for the future look more rosy than at any time for well over a decade. Yes,we have two or three positions we still need to sort, but, we've come a long way in a relatively short period of time and if we have another season of playing our exciting football, whilst continuing to build and consolidate,so be it.

The Hartlepool result has no influence on my thinking. That’s just players getting to know each other without a spine. Do I think we have signed good promising exciting players? Yes. Does our future look good? Yes. Am I over all unhappy no. Do I think the current squad is a genuine promotion candidate ? No - because we have to have more players than we currently have able to finish

To be fair we don't actually know that about him or Mayenda, they might fit straight in.

And it's OK saying we need to replace Stewart but what happens if he decides to stay.
I think it’s unrealistic to expect a 19 year old to maintain form in a new country for a whole season. I think it’s a good buy it’s just not enough. With regards to Stewart I think he needs genuine competition so we sign that, if he leaves we replace him. We need three who can play up top over a season. If we want to go up that is. I’m not sure we do I think we’re still building for the future but every year we fail to go up we will lose some quality players. Only way to stop that is promotion.

The composition of the squad isn't finished, nor would I expect it to be with the thick end of a month to go before the window closes. As someone touched on earlier we haven't even begun to look at loans yet which we'll inevitably bring some in.

We have seven players in, many of them address the height issue and pretty much all fit the model. If we're sitting here having this discussion and its September 5th then I think the criticism is more than valid, but I think they've earned some patience on the recruitment front.
