You watch it become widely circulated now as the figure we'd accept and eventually become gospel. It happened before on here, you casually mentioned a figure to give as an example and within a couple of days it was across Twitter and RTG and perhaps even in some articles. I can't remember who or what it was though, do you recall?

it was the £6m Cirkin buy back clause. I posted it on here as an example of how it could work and what kind of figure would suit all parties. somebody took it on RTG, then twitter, then football manager. Now it’s known as the actual figure. I have no idea if I just got it right, or if my original post has become a Chinese whisper that’s been taken as gospel.

I think their problem with him was lack of pace? And that they needed somebody in that role with pace. But our style is all about direct pace up the pitch either through quick passing or carrying. Which means our “false 9” could very much act like a pivot which would suit a slower player with good vision , as long as they have the work rate to get into the right positions and close down centre backs.
Does effective pressing and closing down not require some pace though?

Ha ha! That was it!! It's gospel now. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Played a fair few long balls against Mallorca I noticed as well, far more than we did last season.
we didn't really have a target man last season apart from the first few matches, so playing long balls was difficult. Last night I thought that the ball seemed to be travelling really slow across the pitch and seemed to get worse as the rain fell but i think it slowed our normal pace down and made it harder to play our normal passing game (that is not meant to excuse the players they should have been better) which i think affected the overall speed of the game

I THINK it was just a lucky guess because like I say - it’s in football manager, I’ve seen the athletic mention it, I’ve seen sky mention it etc. BUT they could all be using each other as sources and if one of them didn’t check their source I may have unintentionally set the narrative in him :D

I don't think having four strikers is realistic tbh..2 oven ready strikers, a promising kid and an alternative is best we could hope for. How many 'strikers ' do man City have? I doubt they have four oven ready first teamers. We've only really got semendo and he's unproven. The problem we have is the injuries. They will be fit at some point so you can't sign players for a couple of months as then you'll have five or six by November. I think we could do with one more, a proper centre forward who knows the league

I get what you are saying but we can have an increased number of substitutes on the bench from this season so personally I think 4 makes more sense. It's a bloody long season in the Championship and there are some really physical teams. We are bound to pick up more injuries (although hopefully not serious)

As I'm off today and bored, currently there are 16 teams in the Championship with at least 4 centre forwards in their squad, the other 8 have 3.

Incredibly Huddersfield have 7, Preston 6 (who are supposedly favourites for Cannon) and Stoke have 5.

What all this does do is put a hell of a lot of pressure on Hemir. Which could also be the making of him.
All of this is supposing we only ever play 1 up front but we often played with 2 when we had Stewart and Simms fit and playing so there is still a bit of wiggle room, however I do agree that 3 out and out strikers is about right and maybe a very attack minded winger/midfielder could be an option but we also have a few very talented looking midfielders at the club who could potentially be that extra striker if needed I am thinking of Ekwah/Bellingham/Rigg I think all of these may be able to do a job in an emergency

There's a theory they tried to teach us at school, I forget the name, which reminds me of transfer windows. It's to do with chasing wasted time because people are reluctant to 'lose' the time they've already invested.

It's like waiting for a bus that hasn't arrived and being angry with the bus company. The longer you persist in waiting the harder it becomes to give up and the angrier you get until, eventually, you think 'f**k it I'll just wait until I have the facts'. Then you find the bus had caught fire and all the passengers dies.

Each new day on here sees anguished calculations based on rumour, speculation and click bait ...

... which is rendered pointless by the latest rumour, speculation and click bait.

Good fun and fills in a few idle moments but inevitably futile.

Sunken cost fallacy?

Crap examples I know but how many strikers did City have last year? 2?

Arsenal? 2.

Chelsea, with all their spending? Did they even have 2?

having four strikers is a luxury.

(bear in mind we don’t play more games than these teams either, just more league games).
I’d say it cost Arsenal the league mind

I wonder if Dack could be a false no9 with players running off him, especially in away games ...

... I've no idea BTW, just wondering if anyone actually knows.
I could see that. He is a cracking player in and around the box. When he gets in the box he finds space as well as a lot of number 9s. Needs balls into his feet but I can see Roberts and Clarks loving pinging it into him and attacking the space in the box. I think our fans will love Dack.

He’d be great as the 10 imo, Hemir occupying defenders and Dack making the runs into the box. Missed that big style last season.

We have plenty of attacking and goal threat in our team. We're in a better position than the team that reached the playoffs last year. I'm really looking forward to the season. I think we are still looking for another striker but will not worry if we don't get one.

Also there has been no news about Stewart for a long time. It's all speculation. For all we know there could be a couple of alternate plans on contract depending on recovery and form which both parties are happy with and also happy to see how it works out.

AND There's no scenario that has been mentioned on Twitter or any forum that the club won't have considered.

Not sure we're in a better position than start of season last year, mind. We're down Simms, Diallo, and effectively Stewart. Recruited a lot of unproven youngsters plus Dack... The league as a whole has gotten a lot stronger, we'll do well to get playoffs again as things stand, imo.
