Hemir was playing in the 2nd tier of Portuguese football last year, for probably the best academy in world football.

Stewart was playing for a semi-professional team in the 5th tier of Scottish football when he was 19.

Give the ****er a chance he’s barely kicked a ball and people are writing him off.
I haven’t seen any fans writing him off mind. Most seem encouraged from what they’ve seen, just too early to say whether he will be the main man for this season.

Sounds like complete nonsense that in about a million ways. Not least because Speakman just doesn’t seem the kind who’d tell random people anything.
Must be something in the air in the US, as we've gone from a club that leaked nothing to a manager telling fans we are selling Stewart because his injury is too much to recover from and now Speakman tell random fans about signings , fees and deals he's done with KLD ffs someone has had too much to drink or been smoking some seriously illegal substances

I know Sunderland fans are obsessed with players only having one position but that is taking it to extremes. The lad is 16, highly talented and full of potential. At the moment he looks like a number 10 but he could easily end up as a striker, a number 10, a full back or anywhere in between. Restricting him ton one position at the age of 16 is nonsense.
Don't think anyone is restricting him to a position, I'm just going off watching him, he likes to get on the ball and make late runs into the box. Playing as a striker is different, having that instinct to be in the right place is hard to coach

What are you's talking about Rigg is not a striker

I was talking about the lack of an attacker at a specific time, namely when Simms and Stewart were out of the team and Gelhardt was missing chances.

If Rigg isn't there to be attack minded then someone hasn't told him. He scored at Fulham because he was in a scoring position and scored in Texas because he made the run beyond the defence.

I made the comment, at the time, that we've lacked that from the likes of Dan Neil who I don't believe would have made the run or scored the goal.

I believe this. I'd keep him myself but he's arguably third choice right back.

He’s garbage and we have Hume, Huggins and Crompton who can all play there naturally plus O’nien. Probably a decent lad to have in the dressing room but he should be nowhere near our Xl if we’re serious about promotion.

Garbage? Extremely harsh.

Huggins was made of wet bog roll last season and Crompton is a young centre back. Hume is first choice but Gooch is a perfectly fine option in the squad when we can name 9 subs.

Think "garbage" is significantly hyperbolic but I agree he's third choice, and that's even before you include O'Nien to play there.

I think he's a decent Championship right back. We just have two better ones, one of whom (perhaps both) is definitely going to be PL quality.

I'd keep him in an ideal world considering so many sub options. BUT we have a large, large squad and he'd be towards the top of the list of people I'd be willing to lose.

I love Gooch and his fighting attitude makes us competitive but if we are to bring in improvements some have to go

Crompton highly rated? Haven’t seen anything to suggest he’s first team standard.

I wonder if Gooch himself, or Mowbray see him as a right back. I am not so sure. He is a utility man these days, in the mold of some of the good old fashioned utility players. He can play either full back role, wide right and even wide left at a push. Maybe in the 9 sub era this sort of player is less valuable, but I wouldnt be selling him just on the basis he is a 3rd choice right back. Not saying you are guilty of this but there are a few who have been on his case for a while now saying he is not good enough. I disagree, he is good enough to be in the squad. People are in danger of seeing off the character in our squad that makes it easy for young lads to flourish anf feel at home. The value of Gooch and ONien extends far beyond 90mins on a Saturday, in my opinion. A squad of 22 or 23 needs a range of characters, Gooch is a leader and a heart on the sleeve lad.
