Still can't get my head around this.

I've obviously misunderstood the system, but how appalling is it that a FOURTEEN year old player can be taken out of school, taken from a club and moved to the other end of the country?

Absutely shocking, whether the lad makes it or not. And however good he might look now, we know where the odds lie.

Wonder what we'll get. Fulham asked for 8 mil for Harvey Elliot and ended up getting 4.3 at tribunal if he hits his milestones.

It does seem completely wrong to be poaching 14 year olds and then having tribunals to try and determine their value. To my mind the tribunal fees should be prohibitively high and biased towards the parent club to try and disuade it happening.

The whole system is rotten and designed to favour a few clubs.

It is so bad that Brentford and Huddersfield will no longer have players under 18 on their books. They are then in charge of any sales and fees.

You wouldn't blame any club for not wanting to do the hard work for over indulged, favoured and self entitled clubs, who aren't content with having all the best players. They want yours as well.

Too much. Would be another club developing a player for potentially 10years plus
If you ever want better equality these deals should have a much higher tariff. People like Chelsea buy young then often just loan loan sell to make themselves richer because they can. A high percentage of those fees going to the original club will reduce school kids being a commodity and stabilise the lower leagues.

The big clubs can't lose.

If they buy a lower league player for a million he's immediately worth two million by association.

If he doesn't measure up, once he's bought, all they have to do is loan him out to L1 somewhere he'll shine. Then bring him back and give him a game in the second leg of an 'already won' European match with good players around him.

Someone will be tempted to buy him at which point he'll be demoralised and need 'rebuilding' ...

... it's like a cattle market tbh, very sad.

It's disgusting. God knows what "incentives" are given to parents and others.

And most of the time they hoover up a player " just in case" he's the one.

And as these same clubs run the game, it won't improve

Word yesterday was that the striker in question was due up this weekend. Heard nothing more since. Expect news over the next few days.
Coming up because a deal between the clubs is all agreed?

Or the new modern thing of come and look around and agree terms first then we'll deal with the club?
