Are a clubs scouts normally shrouded in mystery? Serious question, not having a pop. I just googled Sunderland's scouts and there are only 3 named on TransferMarkt (Stuart Harvey, Ged McNamee and Simon Cooper) ...I assume we have many more than that. My best mate's Dad at primary school was a scout for the mags, and he'd tell anyone who wanted to listen. 80s though, football has obviously changed a lot since then. Genuinely interested.

just guessing but perhaps they’re our only salaried scouts and the rest are freelancers we use

Yeah you find that clubs have a lot of part time scouts working for them on nights or weekends. I used to speak to a scout for man utd, when i was coaching youth football, and he was part time for years. Didnt move into a full time role until 10 yrs after doing part time work for them

I only volunteer for my club currently but heres hoping i eventually do it full time

The lad has explained it all before and probably will again but short answer for him is he isn't actually a scout for the club but as a scout who is a fan for the club used to send them stuff on players he thought would fit the club.

One of my best mates dads was a scout for Sunderland growing up, this would’ve been 04-08. Sure he went to City after. He never really spoke about it and it wasn’t common knowledge amongst folk around here

Out of interest mate, do you still send stuff to the club or was that more before you started for the European club?

Ah right. Only place I've seen this was your post here. I've loads heard him say it I'm sure there'd of been a post by now either here, RTG or Twitter.
I posted a few months back that Mowbray, Pallister and a friend of mine ( who is an ex -pro and a Smoggie) had met and Mowbray fed the the same thing back to them. I remember getting slated for that as well! my friend still maintains that Mowbray has now said this 3-4 times to him. Never mentioned the injury though. About money and that he had a very good relationship with AN

I’m over in the states for the 10 day tour, we were speaking with Mowbray at the training session last night and he told us Stewart was potentially going to stoke, the club don’t think he will recover properly from his injury and are going to cash in on him.
Somehow I don't think mowbray is just going to come out and tell random fans that

Funny one with Stewart because for me at January time I thought he was key, but with how we did in the last dozen games made me realise he was replaceable. Rather he stayed still, think we could have a good squad with him to come back a few weeks in. All about good players fighting to get in the team, hopefully he fancies the fight and signs on

That would be the dream, been sunderland daft since i was born thanks to @Jarca
Keep dreaming mate, and it can become reality. You have a hell of an eye for a player in my opinion.

I have been offered a formal gig coaching in an academy this year. U18 level. I have always enjoyed just doing bits and pieces for a few clubs, and focussing on kids not in academies but who should be imo. Not sure I will take it because it will stop me doing a few things I like. Shows though, if you are involved and have decent contacts opps open for you.
