The club has some difficult decisions to make. It's easy to say "they'll be worth more next summer" but that's not always how it works. Sometimes players regress, sometimes they stay at the same level for another year where perhaps they were expected to improve so their value is lowered as there's less potential there than previously thought.

Personally, I think Clarke will be worth just as much next summer if not more. I'd hold onto him unless a silly money bid comes in (£20m+).

Ballard, if we genuinely can get £15m I'd snap West Ham's hands off. That is ludicrous money for a player we signed a year ago for £2m who didn't even manage to play half a season. I've seen people on here writing his injuries off but it adds a huge element of risk to him. He gets another long-term injury next season and noone will touch him with a barge pole. I'd take the money and run, personally.
It's all very well getting 15m for a player. But it's just money and we aren't going to replace him with a 15m player. We will be severely weakened and it will be a case of hoping that one of the new signings comes good. Unlikely to happen overnight. So our chances of starting fast and making a push for promotion are reduced.
We will reinvest in squad but there are no guarantees we can keep.finding these gems. It really depends on how much the hierarchy want promotion.

I applaud the new owners but I worry that their cumulative approach means we will miss opportunities to go up this season. I get it but my optimism is under threat. Let’s see what happens with our players.

I think the hierarchy want promotion as soon as they can,but within financial parameters.
As for the squad,it's not always guaranteed that these young players will progress as quickly as we would like. Let's take the situation with Clarke as an example....he's obviously the subject of interest from PL clubs....which we might have expected. So,signing Jewi as a possible replacement for him was sensible, but,Jewi may take another year to settle.....no way to know when we signed him....so,we have to wait, which I think we are able to do. Our recruitment is key, although they won't get it right every time.

Was listening to the Echo pod with Smith/Copley-Paste and they were saying how it feels a season too early for Clarke/Ballard and there is no appetite from club or players to move.
The close season means that the devil finds work for idle hands, especially on Twitter etc. I'm not overly concerned with the rumours to be honest

It's just a bit if a headache in here as it goes from a chat amongst others of how would you feel if so and so left then 3 pages later their lockers are cleared out and we are spending the 15 million!

I wouldn't be happy with 15 for Ballard or 20 for Clarke, as I firmly believe they will both be worth another 10 on top of that with another good season. Which again I'm confident they will both have, Ballard and his injuries are only question mark and hopefully he was unlucky with a mix of being young.

see naturally across all platforms since the kit delay was announced there seems to be a bit of a dip in optimism....

baffles me how KLD who's Dad was CEO of Adidas and family tied in to Marseille cannot get a decent kit deal and took JustSport as the best option. Really weird.

On the pitch and football side weve came on leaps and bounds. thats the main thing!

I am calm about the speculation around our players because it shows we are on the right path, its been years since clubs higher up the leagues than us coveted our players. My take is the owner and the players & staff know how close we came and are well aware that we are not far away from premier league. The atmosphere and good mood around the club is infectious and its obvious the players are loving their time here and long may it continue. Some of these lads have been at premier league clubs and had to drop a level to play regularly, that tells me they want to play and enjoy playing. The likes of Clarke could have sat on his big contract at Spurs and picked up the money but he wants to play, there is no bigger club outside the Premier League than us and we have proven we are on the rise again. 34,000 season tickets sold already means we will have far bigger crowds than Leeds, Leicester and alike. I know where I would want to be strutting my stuff next season. No coincidence either that the Sky Cameras kept rocking up to watch the lads, its entertaining, the atmosphere is class and we have some of the best up and coming kids in the country. Its the perfect storm.

I am completely relaxed about our transfer business because we are light years away from being the basket case club we used to be.

Speakman and KLD will not be pushed around by anyone and will always act in the best interests of the club.

They will certainly have irons in the fire that we are not aware of, that's for sure!

I'm excited to see what the squad looks like when the transfer window slams shut.

KLD could literally mortgage the club to the hilt, spend our money on big signings and look like a hero ...

... then put us in the same shoes as Wigan.

In my opinion this is much more exciting than chasing over rated ageing mercenaries who come in and wreck the team spirit then want out. We've gone from being ridiculed to admired and a place ambitious dedicated players want to come.

I think it's happened too quickly for some of us to take in tbh.

It only got the stage of how you could spend £15m because people are saying you couldn’t replace Ballard with that amount of money :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Everything around the club, on the pitch at least, is positive so if they do decide to cash in on a few players and reinvest then we‘ve no reason not to trust KLD and Speakman to get it right.

think i will let you lads discuss all the pros and cons of the transfer saga, so many possibles and options that may or may not work etc etc, my old head cannot handle it all.

i will just stick by the reasoning i am happy with...i believe the current recruitment squad have done a sterling job, i do not expect every one of these lads to shine instantly but so far they get a gold star, i am also sure that many are being looked at, some will be sounded out and some more additions will come in, what they will not do is 'overfill' the squad as another task will be to keep the wage bill in check.

now, the behind the scenes work, while it is obvious that work is needed i am choosing to think that the 'on field' work was decided to be of the utmost urgency and the rest all but shoved onto the back burner...now we see the progress not only on the playing side and staff side but a few details coming out about the training ground and some small improvements at the SoL i feel sure we will see the behind the scenes stuff start to gather pace.

i am now settled into my 'chill and see what happens' mode, after those four lads were brought in early it showed me that this club has plans...and that will do me. ;)
At last, someone not ****ting their pants about what MIGHT happen. Que Sera, Sera.......

I agree overall I’m just worried about too big a change at this point.

KS and KLD will know what is right for the club. It's a great sign that pl clubs are wanting our players.
I agree but what if we get ‘acceptably high’ bids for Stewart Clarke and Ballard and all leave. Don’t you worry for our performances and impact on the squad?
