Allowing the likes of Clarke to progress will only encourage more ambitious young players to come to Sunderland ...

... blocking their progress won't help us imo.

We need to get used to seeing players develop and move on.

We're not Man City but wouldn't it be great if our players went on to play for them.
100%. Essential that we show their pathway. And not holding out for extortionate money. Make a good profit and help the kids career

As **** as the league one years were, and I wouldn’t want to see them again, but there has been some top characters come into the club. Wright was a big part of the spine that finally got us out of that league (patto, bath, Wright, evans, onien, Stewart) and he represented the club in the right way. Sad to see players like him leave as the club progresses but we have to be ruthless if we want to keep pushing. Appreciate what he did for us and how he carried himself, hope he has a good end to his career and sets himself and his family up well.

100% agree however the price has to be right, the rumoured bids for Clarke are absolutely laughable.

We don’t need to sell for a pittance especially when there is an existing sell on clause involved

What have they offered now? £10m and a ****ing Wham bar? Tell them to get serious and make a proper offer or they can get to ****.

Makes me think they might not have as much as a transfer budget as people might think. Could be they have to spread the pot around a bit and hope we're desperate after a few years in league one and need to sell to raise cash to bring players in because they can't push out to our proper valuation.

I reckon Simms is worth £3-4m if Gyokores is apparently worth £20m. Might not have link up play like Stewart but in terms of goals per minutes last season he was right up there with the best in the league.

Sorry but I would put around £3m for Simms. He's a decent player but needs work to make him a PL player

Maybe they don't have a big budget, I'm not sure on their ownership wealth tbh.

But, going after Clarke with 3 years on his contract and 20 odd goal involvements in a top 6 side last season would indicate he is a proper player, so they need to stump up the cash or let Kompany call in another favour from City or somewhere in Belgium and get someone else.

They need to stop wasting everyone's time with offers less than 20m plus addons. I would hope our response to their first offer (reportedly of around 8m) was succinct and to the point.

If they put another offer in less than 20m I'd put the ****ers on ignore tbh. <laugh>

I totally get that and money talks etc. Playing in prem will be good for his career and might lead to bigger things and be part of his journey. But it's Burnley ffs. He'll not enjoy it there as much as he is now. That surely counts for something. It ultimately probably won't be his decision
