I also think Clarke will only be worth more next summer, so selling him now makes little sense without further context.

BUT…

If selling him now means we can secure Cirkin, Stewart, Roberts, Ballard, Hume onto longer deals. Then it becomes harder to balance.

I’d like to think we can do all of the above anyway, but if we can’t… and it takes a major cash injection… you can see why £20m now might actually be better than £25m next summer (as an example)

Or let’s say £20m now allows us to buy our four main targets this summer - all players with a potential bigger upside than Clarke. Do we turn down bids for Clarke, and recruit our second or third choices, just to hold out for a few extra million next summer?

my only point is that this is a lot of money we are talking about and it’s nowhere near as simple as us guys on the internet saying what fee we think it should be. It’s real money with real consequences and real opportunities to spend any money we get now

All hypothetical. But it’s just the factors that go into whether we should accept a bid go far beyond whether it’s the optimum price. (Which is why it’s always undisclosed!)

To be fair, i bet agents will say one thing in public and the opposite behind closed doors. Being cynical that could be seen as a 'come and get me'. I'm always dubious when agents come out and raise their heads publicly.
I know a couple of agents. Very decent lads. They do now how to play the game though. To be fair they have to be, clubs these days are private corporations who will squueze as much from anything as they can. The agent has to be up to their level.

Both very good arguments / perspectives.
I guess Spurs add on is 20%?

People forget these are ‘of profit’ not of total fee so as we never knew definitively what he cost haven’t a clue where the value is.

Clarke is one we should keep another year for me regardless, promotion worth more than any fee we get.

only caveat / caution on Triantis is he's essentially played one season at League Two level. He definitely looks to have the tools. I just think he starts the season behind Batth, Ballard, Alese and maybe even O'Nien in pecking order.

Although I have a gut feeling Alese will be out until later in autumn

But he also looks the kind who might be first choice by the end of the season.

In all seriousness tho - they've also signed James Justin.

Justin and Barnes are great additions.

Duffy is a weird one - he's been around forever but still only 31.
